He made his intention known in a letter sent to PDP leaders at both state and local government levels.

The letter, dated April 30, 2026, was addressed to the Ogun State PDP Chairman through the party chairman in Odogbolu Local Government Area.

In the correspondence, Adebutu appreciated party leaders and members for their continued loyalty and support over the years.

He stressed that for the PDP to succeed in the upcoming election, it must operate in unity, discipline, and with a collective sense of purpose.

The former House of Representatives member also reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and expressed his readiness to provide purposeful leadership to the people of Ogun State.

According to him, his renewed ambition is driven by his long-standing involvement in the party and his desire to further strengthen its structure across the state.

Describing himself as a loyal and law-abiding party member, Adebutu said his decision to return to the race is informed by experience and a determination to deliver better governance.

He urged PDP stakeholders in Ogun State to remain united and focused ahead of the polls, warning that internal cohesion would be key to electoral success.

Adebutu also pledged to work with all factions within the party to ensure victory at the polls.

Recall that he was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, where he lost to the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by 13,915 votes.

He subsequently challenged the outcome up to the Supreme Court but was unsuccessful.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially denied allegations that it provided access codes to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction headed by Nafiu Bala Gombe. In his statement, Gombe emphasized that this move was a step toward protecting the interests of the party’s legacy members against “anti-democratic tendencies,” while reiterating the party’s commitment to fielding competent candidates.

However, Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, has clarified the situation regarding which faction holds the authorization to nominate candidates. Haruna stated unequivocally that the portal access code was issued exclusively to the leadership faction led by Senator David Mark.

Haruna explained that the commission’s records clearly reflect this decision, noting that the Senator Mark faction had already utilized the code to submit the details of over 400 candidates—including those for the presidency—well before a recent Court of Appeal ruling nullified the group’s state congresses. “We never issued any access code to the Nafiu Gombe faction,” Haruna affirmed.
