Supreme Court Ruling Triggers Shake-Up As PDP BoT Takes Control Of Party Leadership.

reports that the BoT made the declaration on Thursday in a statement signed by Wabara, following the Supreme Court ruling delivered the same day. According to him, the judgment effectively left the PDP without a clear and recognised leadership structure, making it necessary for the BoT to step in to prevent a vacuum at the top of the party. Wabara described the ruling as an unfortunate development for the party, adding that it nullified the November 2025 PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee. He further stated that the Supreme Court also upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, and Kamaldeen Ajibade from their respective positions as National Secretary, National Organising Secretary, and National Legal Adviser. Wabara explained that the implication of the judgment is that all actions taken by the affected officials—including the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman, the formation of a caretaker committee, and the conduct of the March 29, 2026 convention in Abuja—are null and void. He added that since both rival leadership structures have now been invalidated, responsibility for steering the party has reverted to the BoT, in line with the PDP Constitution. Accordingly, the BoT said it has assumed interim leadership to stabilise the party, initiate reconciliation, and ensure continuity ahead of electoral deadlines. The statement also disclosed that an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) will soon be convened to establish an interim National Working Committee to manage party affairs and prepare for the 2027 general elections. Wabara commended Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, along with other stakeholders, for their efforts in sustaining the party during the crisis, while urging all factions to unite and put aside personal interests. He stressed that the party must move toward reconciliation, warning that prolonged internal division would further weaken both the PDP and Nigeria’s democratic process.

News reports that Okpebholo made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. The governor said he is confident that Edo voters will turn out massively to deliver votes for Tinubu, insisting that the state could contribute up to 2.5 million votes in the next election. He stated, “I will get the 2.5 million votes from Edo State, it’s already on the streets, everybody is coming to vote for Asiwaju on that day.” When asked whether Tinubu’s support in Edo would be driven by his influence, Okpebholo said the President has been providing financial support to the state and other governors to carry out development projects. He said, “Because of the work we are doing, because of the money Tinubu is releasing to us to work for him and that is what you are seeing on the street. “It has never happened in Edo State like this before.” The governor also recalled that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi defeated Tinubu in Edo State during the 2023 election, attributing it to what he described as poor performance by the then-governor, Godwin Obaseki. He added that voter sentiment in the state has now shifted, saying residents are more inclined to support candidates based on governance performance. Okpebholo further argued that dissatisfaction with the previous administration influenced the last election outcome, but insisted that the current political climate would produce a different result in 2027.

News reports that the elections will be conducted in Kebbi, Kano, Ondo, Rivers, Nasarawa, and Enugu States. The exercise will cover four senatorial seats, one House of Representatives seat, and one State House of Assembly seat. In Ondo State, the vacancy arose after Senator Jimoh Ibrahim left the chamber to serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. In Rivers State, the seat became vacant following the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi, while in Nasarawa State, the passing of Senator Godiya Akwashika created another vacancy. In Enugu State, the seat was left empty after the death of Senator Okey Ezea. Kano State will also conduct a House of Representatives election, while Kebbi State will hold a poll to fill a vacant seat in its State House of Assembly. INEC also fixed the same date for the Ekiti State governorship election, meaning multiple electoral activities will take place nationwide on that day. The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the timetable during the swearing-in ceremony of a new National Commissioner, Rear Admiral Jamila Malafa (rtd.). He noted that the commission is preparing for a busy electoral schedule, confirming that both the Ekiti governorship election and the bye-elections will hold simultaneously on June 20, 2026, across the affected areas.
Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliott, has sought forgiveness from the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, saying he hopes to be pardoned if he has offended him during his time in office.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
News reports that Elliott made the appeal after obtaining his nomination form to seek re-election for the Surulere Constituency 1 seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Nollywood actor-turned-politician said he holds Gbajabiamila in high regard as a senior political leader, describing him as a guiding figure in public service. He added that if he had made any mistakes in the course of his duties, he was asking for forgiveness and another opportunity to continue serving his constituents.
He said, “Our leader is a compassionate leader. A leader of thought. We are children. Children sometimes err. If I have erred in any way, my leader, I am sorry. Give me another chance, and let’s move on, and let’s bring more dividends of democracy to the people.”
He further clarified that his apology was not based on any direct accusation from Gbajabiamila, but rather a personal reflection.
Elliott also dismissed reports suggesting that groups such as the Surulere Accountability Forum had rejected his ambition, saying he was not aware of such an organisation and describing the claims as politically motivated attempts to cause confusion.
He maintained that he remains actively engaged with his constituency and continues to work closely with residents.
Defending his bid for another term, the lawmaker argued that experience in the legislature is important for effective representation, saying returning lawmakers are better positioned to attract projects, opportunities, and development to their constituencies compared to first-time legislators still learning the system.
