Ogun East Senate Race: Abiodun Tells Daniel — “I Helped You Become Governor, Senator”.

Published

on

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said he played a significant role in the political rise of Gbenga Daniel, including his emergence as governor in 2003 and later his election as Senator for Ogun East in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Abiodun stated that if Daniel now believes responding with media criticism is the appropriate way to reciprocate his past support, then he leaves him to his conscience.

The governor made the remarks during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday night at his Iperu Remo residence, a video of which has since gone viral.

It was also gathered that Abiodun used the meeting to declare his interest in contesting the Ogun East Senatorial seat in 2027.

Recall that APC leaders in a recent caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode had endorsed Abiodun as the consensus candidate for the senatorial district ahead of the election. However, Daniel defied the position by purchasing his nomination form to seek re-election to the Senate.

Explaining his political history with Daniel, Abiodun said he contested against him in 2003 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was the first to congratulate him after he won the primary election.

He added that he supported Daniel’s emergence by mobilising his political structure and persuading key contenders, including Prince Segun Adesegun and Senator Lekan Mustapha, to step down in his favour.

“I was here when Otunba Gbenga Daniel became governor. I contested against him in 2003, and when he emerged from the primaries, I congratulated him and handed over all my structures to him,” Abiodun said.

He further claimed that he also played a role in Daniel’s emergence as senator, noting that such contributions had never been publicly discussed.

“I know what I did for Governor Daniel to become a senator. This is not something I have ever said publicly, but these are facts,” he added.

Abiodun, however, expressed disappointment over what he described as negative media attacks allegedly linked to Daniel, saying he would leave the matter to conscience.

“If Senator Daniel now feels the only way to repay my support is through sponsoring negative publicity against me, I leave him to his conscience,” he said.

Reiterating his ambition, the governor promised quality representation for Ogun East if elected to the Senate in 2027.

“When you gave me the mandate to govern Ogun State, I did not disappoint you. I assure you I will give Ogun East the best representation in the history of the Red Chamber,” he said.

He added that he would be an active lawmaker and not a passive presence in the Senate, pledging impactful representation for the district.

Akpabio Camp Row Deepens As APC Chieftain Rejects Suspension Report.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Chief Edet Ben, has denied involvement in the alleged suspension of Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, from the party in Ward 9, Esit Eket Local Government Area.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ben, who serves as an Ex-Officio member of the party in Ward 9, threatened legal action against those behind what he described as the forgery of his name and signature on documents claiming Eyiboh’s suspension.

In a sworn court affidavit, Ben described the purported suspension process as fraudulent and non-existent.

He stated that no meeting was held on April 22 to discuss or approve any disciplinary measures against Eyiboh or any other party member, adding that he neither attended nor endorsed such proceedings.

Ben also alleged that his name and signature were falsely inserted into an attendance list linked to the alleged suspension exercise.

He subsequently disowned both the attendance document and the suspension letter reportedly sent to APC leadership at the chapter and state levels.

In his notice, Ben demanded the immediate removal of his name from the documents, a public retraction, and an end to any unauthorised use of his identity.

He warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action.

The controversy follows an announcement by a faction within the ward claiming Eyiboh had been suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

Meanwhile, a grassroots political group, Ward Nine New Era (WNNE), has strongly condemned the move, describing it as malicious, baseless, and invalid.

The group argued that the action appeared targeted at a key political figure who had recently mobilised grassroots support for major APC leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno.

WNNE also questioned the legitimacy of the ward executives behind the move and insisted that due process was not followed.

The group urged party members and the public to disregard the suspension, maintaining that it lacked credibility and legal standing.
