EFCC Case: Achimugu Reveals Source Of Wealth, Denies Sanwo-Olu Ties.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Achimugu said she comes from a respectable background and revealed that she started her business in 2001.

Naija News reports that the founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd previously made headlines after hosting a lavish seven-day 50th birthday celebration in Grenada, attended by top Nigerian entertainers and notable figures, including Governor Sanwo-Olu.

More than a year later, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared her wanted over allegations of money laundering.

She was arrested on April 29, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, and in March 2026, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the final forfeiture of $13 million allegedly linked to her and her company.

Reacting to the allegations, Achimugu insisted the forfeited funds were not found in her residence. She said only $50,000 and ₦13 million belonging to her mother, along with her personal belongings, were discovered during the search.

She questioned the claim that $13 million was traced to her home, stressing that she is not a financial institution and would not keep such an amount in her house.

Explaining her source of wealth, she said her oil block belongs to Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd and was acquired through a competitive and transparent bidding process.

On her relationship with Governor Sanwo-Olu, who attended her birthday celebration, Achimugu said she has always had access to influential people due to her success in business.

She clarified that the governor’s presence at her event was incidental, noting that he attended because he was in the same location at the time.

According to her, her interactions with prominent figures are a result of her professional network and business achievements, not political connections.

She added that she has been in business since 2001, describing her background as coming from a decent family. She also mentioned that her late husband was a former Managing Director of PPMCC, whom she met through business dealings with NNPC.

Achimugu firmly denied ever receiving financial support from Governor Sanwo-Olu or any of her associates.

The prosecution, led by Arit N Okon, established that the offenses occurred on July 24, 2026, at the NAHCO Export Shed within the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos. During a cargo examination of a consignment destined for Nairobi, Kenya, Bob-Manuel was found to have attempted the export himself while also enlisting Justina of Tina Travels Service Limited and Anosie Ebube of Fair Express to facilitate the shipment. These actions violated Section 21(2)(c) and Section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Following the admission of guilt, the prosecution reviewed the facts and tendered relevant exhibits. In defense, the convict’s legal counsel, Chief Benson Ndakara (assisted by Kate Igbo), asked the court for leniency, noting that Bob-Manuel was a first-time offender with no prior criminal record who saved judicial time, and requested a non-custodial fine option instead of imprisonment.

Taking the arguments, the quantity of the drug, and mitigation factors into account, Justice Aluko sentenced Bob-Manuel to four years on each count, with the terms ordered to run concurrently from the date of his arrest. Additionally, the judge granted a fine option of ₦1 million in lieu of the jail term.
