The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has said that increased funding and the prompt release of budgeted allocations to the military are essential to changing the course of Nigeria’s fight against insurgency and other security threats.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Agbese praised the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, describing their approach to national security as focused, coordinated, and results-oriented.

He explained that although the Armed Forces continue to show courage and resilience in confronting growing security challenges, their operational effectiveness largely depends on steady and timely access to funds.

“Our military is doing an extraordinary job under very demanding conditions. However, no matter how committed and professional our troops are, the reality remains that military operations require consistent funding, timely releases, and access to modern equipment,” he said.

Agbese observed that recent improvements in military operations across different regions, including intensified actions against insurgents and criminal networks, point to a renewed strategic direction under the current military leadership.

He noted that General Oluyede has strengthened coordination and urgency within the defence system, while Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has maintained sustained pressure on insurgents through focused ground operations.

According to him, both military chiefs have shown a strong grasp of modern warfare, especially the importance of intelligence-led operations and closer cooperation among the different branches of the Armed Forces.

“What we are seeing today is leadership that is both committed and strategic. There is better coordination, improved troop morale, and a clear determination to confront these threats decisively,” he said.

The Benue lawmaker further stated that the military has recorded significant progress in weakening insurgent groups, disrupting their logistics networks, and reclaiming territories previously controlled by non-state actors.

However, he stressed that sustaining these gains will depend on how quickly and efficiently funds are released to support ongoing operations.

“Appropriations alone are not enough. What matters is the speed and consistency of releases. Delays in funding can slow operations, disrupt logistics, and give criminal elements room to regroup,” Agbese warned.

He urged relevant government bodies to treat defence funding as a top priority, describing it as a critical investment in national stability rather than routine expenditure.

Agbese also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the Armed Forces, noting that public cooperation and confidence are crucial to the success of security operations.

“Our troops are making daily sacrifices to keep the country safe. As citizens, we must support them not only by acknowledging their efforts but also by cooperating with security agencies and sharing useful information where necessary,” he said.

He further highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between the military, other security agencies, state authorities, and local communities in tackling the root causes of insecurity.

Agbese expressed optimism that with improved funding, stronger institutional backing, and continued leadership from the CDS and COAS, Nigeria can achieve major breakthroughs in its security efforts.

“This is a fight we can win. With the right support, strong leadership, and a united national effort, we will witness a real turning point in our security situation,” he said.

2027 Elections: NNPP Schedules May 26 Primaries For All Elective Positions.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has scheduled May 26 for its primaries across all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The positions to be contested include the House of Assembly, governorship seats, National Assembly, and the presidency.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the NNPP would adopt a consensus approach for selecting candidates in all wards nationwide.

He noted that the date for the primaries has already been communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Johnson also revealed that INEC had successfully completed a verification exercise of the party’s administrative and operational structures at its national secretariat in Abuja on April 23.

According to him, the smooth conduct of the exercise confirms the legitimacy of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Hon. Bala Mohammed.

He added that this development dismisses claims by expelled members and reinforces the NWC as the party’s recognised leadership.

Johnson further rejected challenges to the committee’s authority by expelled members, describing their reliance on court rulings as futile.

He pointed out that an existing judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja had already affirmed that the individuals are no longer members of the NNPP.

He accused them of withholding key facts from courts to mislead the judiciary in ongoing legal disputes.

Describing the actions of the dissenting members as deceptive attempts to revive a failed political agenda, Johnson expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately settle the leadership dispute in favour of the current NWC.

He also encouraged Nigerians, especially young people and professionals, to take part in the party’s ongoing membership registration across its 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas nationwide.

His withdrawal comes shortly after Governor Abdullahi Sule endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor.

Speaking to journalists, Shuaib said his decision followed wide consultations with supporters and stakeholders across the state, adding that it was based on integrity and his promise to stand by his word.
