Osifo Enters APC Presidential Race, Challenges Tinubu’s Endorsement Move.

A former presidential aspirant, Stanley Osifo, has announced his intention to seek the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election, potentially setting up a contest with President Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Osifo disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing in Abuja, where he also revealed plans to purchase the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms, valued at ₦100 million, ahead of the primaries.

His declaration comes at a time when several APC governors have endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for 2027, a move seen as strengthening the President’s position within the party.

However, Osifo argued that such endorsements do not automatically determine who emerges as the party’s flagbearer.

Responding to claims that he is being backed by the President, Osifo dismissed the allegation, insisting he has no financial or political ties influencing his ambition.

“It is not strange to hear people say Tinubu is the one sponsoring me… I can categorically tell you that I have never benefited one Kobo from him. If anybody has proof, let them show the world,” he said.

He further maintained that both the APC constitution and Nigeria’s electoral laws guarantee every qualified member the right to contest for elective positions.

“There is no part of our party constitution that says an endorsed candidate automatically becomes the party’s flagbearer. INEC law also allows any qualified aspirant to contest for the ticket,” he added.

While acknowledging the role of endorsements in politics, Osifo said he would not be discouraged by them, stressing his commitment to the race.

“I am not against governors or party leaders endorsing anyone, but we all have a constitutional right to pursue our ambitions,” he said.

The APC has scheduled its presidential primary for May 15–16, with nomination forms set at ₦100 million—₦30 million for expression of interest and ₦70 million for the nomination form.

Speaking on Brazilian legend Romário’s YouTube channel, Xavi reflected on the 15 years he spent alongside Messi at Barcelona, portraying him as a footballer far beyond comparison with any player from the past or present.

The former Spanish midfielder said even world-class stars such as Neymar could not rival Messi’s overall impact and extraordinary ability.

Xavi admitted he would like future players to surpass Messi but believes that possibility is highly unlikely.

According to him, Messi excelled in every department of football, from technique and physical strength to tactical intelligence, heading ability, use of both feet, and an unmatched competitive mentality.

He described the Argentine as an extraordinary player who elevated everyone around him whenever he had the ball.

Xavi added that beyond his football brilliance, Messi remains humble, disciplined, hardworking, and deeply committed to perfection.

He recalled first seeing Messi at age 16 and immediately recognizing him as a phenomenon unlike any other, while also praising his personality and character off the pitch.

Xavi also revealed that he had attempted to bring Messi back to Barcelona, but the move did not materialize because the club president rejected the idea.

His remarks further fuel the enduring debate over Messi’s place in football history, having personally witnessed his transformation from teenage sensation to global icon during Barcelona’s golden era.

Messi currently plays for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami and is expected to lead Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
