Full Details: What David Mark Said At National Opposition Political Summit.

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, on Saturday attended the National Summit of Opposition Political Party Leaders held in Ibadan, Oyo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Below is a rephrased version of his full remarks:

  1. Our gathering today is a direct response to a national call to duty. My hope is that history will record that when Nigeria cried out for rescue, we responded. When mothers mourned children lost to banditry, we responded. When families suffered rape and terror, we responded. When workers could not afford transport, children went hungry, and citizens were pushed into poverty, we responded. History will judge what role we played, and I believe those present here, along with many others supporting us in spirit, will be remembered for choosing to act.
  2. The call to rescue Nigeria is not political rhetoric. The reality is evident across the country, where insecurity has become part of daily life—from insurgency and terrorism to banditry, kidnappings, and rising urban crime. Nigeria today faces a serious national emergency.
  3. The figures are alarming. In 2025 alone, over 12,000 conflict-related deaths were recorded in Nigeria, surpassing countries actively at war such as Syria, Iraq, and Yemen combined. Nigeria now ranks 4th globally on the terrorism index. While global terrorism deaths declined, Nigeria’s increased significantly. On average, about 15 people are killed daily and 19 abducted. In just the first quarter of this year, around 1,400 Nigerians were killed or kidnapped. Communities are being displaced, families destroyed, and fear has overtaken hope.
  4. Despite this, government response appears detached from reality. While citizens mourn daily, leadership seems focused on politics and election matters rather than addressing insecurity. The ruling party behaves as though all is well, while the nation bleeds.
  5. Democracy is meant to give people choice. When a government fails, citizens have the right to vote it out. However, we are witnessing increasing attempts to weaken opposition voices and restrict political alternatives. Democratic institutions are under pressure, and citizens’ freedom to choose is being undermined, raising serious concerns about the health of our democracy.
  6. Our mission to rescue Nigeria is not symbolic—it is urgent and necessary. It is driven by the suffering of Nigerians and the pressing need for national recovery.
  7. This task is bigger than any individual or party ambition. No single opposition party can confront the current system alone. We must work together, because what is at stake is the survival of our nation. We must also acknowledge attempts to weaken opposition forces and remain united to overcome them.
  8. While it is not the duty of the government to build opposition parties, it is also unacceptable for democratic space to be deliberately weakened. Such actions contradict democratic principles.
  9. We must remain alert to ongoing attempts to divide and destabilise us. Unity, trust, honesty, and transparency are essential. Without them, our efforts will fail.
  10. Time is limited, and we cannot afford repeated mistakes. We must set aside divisions and personal interests to build a stronger coalition capable of delivering change.
  11. The current administration’s record, in our view, reflects failure, and reliance on propaganda cannot replace genuine performance. Nigerians are aware of the situation and understand the realities they face daily.
  12. The struggle before us is no longer between political parties alone, but between the government and the Nigerian people. The people suffering hardship stand at the centre of this reality, and we align with them.
  13. Recent changes in economic management, in our view, reflect an acknowledgment of earlier failures. However, such adjustments come too late to change public perception.
  14. The credibility of elections depends on the neutrality of electoral institutions. When confidence in the electoral umpire is lost, democracy itself is weakened. At present, trust in INEC has significantly declined, raising concerns about future elections.
  15. Despite challenges, we must remain committed to unity, sacrifice, and national interest above personal ambition.
  16. This summit should mark a turning point in Nigeria’s political history—a renewed commitment to restoring democracy, security, and national progress.
  17. If we remain united and disciplined, no force can override the will of the Nigerian people. History will remember those who stood firm at this critical moment.
  18. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving ₦68 billion as operational support for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP), saying the intervention will help improve security in Borno State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ndume, who represents Borno South, said in a statement on Tuesday that the decision reflects the federal government’s responsiveness to the long-standing complaints of residents affected by persistent electricity shortages.

He argued that restoring stable electricity would also help disrupt what he described as the recruitment pipeline for terrorists by improving economic activity and reducing idle youth involvement in crime.

According to him, reliable power supply would strengthen the informal sector and boost small and medium-scale enterprises, while also supporting military efforts against insurgency, which he said thrives in darkness and poor visibility.

Ndume stated that he joined Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and other stakeholders in appreciating President Tinubu for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention.

He said the funding for the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant would serve as a lifeline for economic recovery in the state.

“The fund released to the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant is a lifeline that would ultimately engender economic activities, particularly operations of medium and small-scale enterprises (SMEs),” he said.

He added that improved economic conditions would help reduce vulnerability to terrorist recruitment.

Ndume also urged government agencies, security forces, and residents to protect power infrastructure from vandalism or attacks by insurgents.

He called for greater vigilance, stressing that citizens must support security agencies in safeguarding critical facilities.

He further noted that stable electricity would not only boost livelihoods but also contribute to long-term efforts to improve security in the region.
