Doug King, chairman of Coventry City, has told fans to remain calm amid growing speculation linking head coach Frank Lampard with a possible return to Chelsea FC.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Lampard recently guided Coventry back to the Premier League for the first time in over 25 years after clinching the Championship title with a dominant 5–1 victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday. His success has fueled discussions about a potential move following the dismissal of coach Liam Rosenior.

Speaking to BBC CWR, King commended Lampard’s achievements, describing his impact at the club as remarkable and urging supporters not to be distracted by transfer rumours.

“He’s done a fantastic job; it’s been an incredible 18 months for him and for us,” King said, adding that Lampard should appreciate the difficulty of winning promotion without the financial advantage of parachute payments.

He noted that speculation is inevitable in football, describing it as a “merry-go-round,” while also expressing concern about the trend of clubs frequently changing managers.

King emphasised that Coventry is focused on stability and does not want to be in a position where constant managerial changes are necessary.

He also highlighted Lampard’s strong emotional connection to the club and the city, suggesting the coach is currently content in his role.

“You can see how connected he is to the city and what the achievement meant to him. I think he’s in a happy place,” he said.

While acknowledging that major offers could come in the future, King stressed that such decisions would ultimately rest with Lampard, noting that the club cannot control external interest.

For now, he maintained that both the club and the manager are satisfied, and there is no cause for concern over ongoing speculation.

Lampard, who played for Chelsea between 2001 and 2014, has previously managed the club in two spells—first as a full-time manager from 2019 to 2021, and later as an interim coach in 2023.

Atiku Reacts To Tinubu’s Fresh Loan Request From Senate.

Published

on

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has faulted President Bola Tinubu over his request for Senate approval of a fresh $516 million external loan, warning against what he described as excessive and irresponsible borrowing.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports indicate that Tinubu had written to the Senate seeking approval for a $516.3 million syndicated loan from Deutsche Bank AG. The facility, supported by a partial risk guarantee from the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit, is intended to finance the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project.

The President explained that the Federal Government would also contribute over ₦265.5 billion as counterpart funding for land acquisition, compensation, and related infrastructure needs.

The proposed 1,000-kilometre highway is expected to link Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States, forming a major economic corridor stretching from Illela to Badagry. Tinubu urged the Senate to give prompt approval for the project.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio supported the proposal, describing the project as a potential economic game changer and noting that borrowing for critical infrastructure is justifiable when it yields long-term national benefits.

‘Nigeria Must Not Borrow Blindly’ — Atiku

Reacting through a statement issued by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku cautioned against accumulating external debt without proper transparency and accountability mechanisms.

He said Nigeria is already under significant debt pressure, arguing that further borrowing raises serious concerns about fiscal responsibility.

According to him, Nigerians expect not just ambitious infrastructure projects, but also transparent and responsible financing structures.

Atiku also referenced past infrastructure projects, questioning the transparency of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway procurement process and warning against repeating similar controversies.

He stressed that all government borrowing must comply strictly with procurement laws and be subject to full accountability.

He stated that every loan taken in the name of Nigerians must be transparently managed, adding that development should not come at the expense of financial recklessness.

Atiku further warned that while Nigeria must continue to build infrastructure, it should avoid “blind borrowing,” noting that growth driven by excessive debt and lack of transparency could lead to future economic crises.

Following the President’s request, the Senate has referred the loan proposal to its Committee on Local and Foreign Debts for detailed review, with a directive to report back within one week.

Accord Denies Leadership Crisis, Disowns Imumolen.

Published

on

The Accord Party has dismissed reports suggesting a leadership crisis within its ranks, insisting that its 2023 presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, is no longer a member of the party and therefore has no basis to claim the position of national chairman.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Imumolen had on Tuesday staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where he demanded recognition as the party’s national chairman and accused the commission of failing to enforce court judgments.

However, speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, dismissed the protest, describing it as a publicity stunt aimed at misleading the public.

Mgbudem stated that Imumolen, along with 10 others, was expelled from the party in November 2024 over alleged anti-party activities, a decision taken by the disciplinary committee and later ratified by the National Executive Committee.

He also rejected claims that a court order recognised Imumolen as chairman, explaining that the only ruling obtained was an ex parte order which had already lapsed after seven days.

According to him, there is no leadership crisis within the party and no valid court directive compelling INEC to recognise Imumolen or any faction.

He added: “If there were any valid court order, Imumolen would have displayed it publicly instead of carrying placards.”

Mgbudem further revealed that a suit filed by Imumolen was dismissed by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in July 2025 for lack of jurisdiction, with the court describing it as an internal party matter not subject to judicial intervention.

The party accused the former presidential candidate of attempting to fabricate a crisis, urging members and aspirants to ignore his claims and accusing him of engaging in repeated legal maneuvers in different courts.

Mgbudem maintained that his leadership remains legitimate, noting that he emerged through a national convention held in July 2024, which was supervised by INEC.

He added that the party is currently focused on upcoming elections, including governorship contests in Ekiti and Osun States, as well as preparations for the 2027 general elections.
