Security Push: Military Told To Show No Mercy, No Retreat Against Bandits.
A civil society group, the Northern Peace and Security Accountability Network (NPSAN), has praised the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, for directing troops to intensify operations against bandits across the North-West region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at a press briefing in Kano, the group’s Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Mahmood Sani, said the directive for troops to relentlessly pursue criminal elements highlights the level of urgency needed to address insecurity in the area.
He pointed out that communities in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and parts of Kaduna have endured years of attacks, kidnappings, and displacement.
“The Chief of Defence Staff has demonstrated that leadership goes beyond issuing orders from a distance,” Sani stated.
The coalition also commended ongoing military efforts under Operation Fansan Yamma, describing it as a key strategy in tackling banditry in the region.
According to the group, better coordination among security agencies and sustained pressure on criminal hideouts are beginning to produce positive outcomes in some areas.
NPSAN further applauded the CDS for prioritising discipline, professionalism, and improved welfare for troops, noting that these are crucial for sustaining morale during extended operations.
“The fight against banditry is not a short-term task; it requires continuous commitment,” Sani added.
The group called on residents of the North-West to support security agencies by providing reliable intelligence and avoiding any form of collaboration with criminal elements.
It emphasised that community involvement is vital in dismantling bandit networks and restoring peace.
While endorsing the military’s strategy, the coalition urged security agencies to uphold professionalism and ensure the protection of civilians during operations.
“The success of this effort depends not only on force but also on public trust,” the group noted.
NPSAN expressed confidence that sustained military action, enhanced cooperation among security agencies, and active public participation could gradually restore stability in the North-West.
The group also reaffirmed its support for Oluyede’s leadership, describing it as firm and necessary in confronting Nigeria’s security challenges.
