The former governor arrived at the court premises around 9 a.m. in a convoy, accompanied by officials of the anti-corruption agency and operatives of the Department of State Services, with heavy security deployed around the court to control movement.

During the proceedings, several of his supporters gathered outside the courtroom, while security personnel maintained order to prevent any disruption.

Speaking after the session, his counsel, Ukpon Akpan, raised concerns over the repeated adjournments of the bail application, suggesting that the delays may be politically motivated.

The ceasefire, initially scheduled to last two weeks and due to expire on Tuesday night, has now been prolonged until Iran submits its proposal and both sides reach a conclusion in their discussions.

The decision was announced on April 21, 2026, via a post on Truth Social, where Trump explained that the extension followed a request from Pakistan, which has been mediating between both countries.

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reportedly urged Washington to hold off on any military escalation while Iranian authorities work on presenting a unified position.

Despite the extension, Trump maintained that US forces will continue operations in the region. He confirmed that the naval blockade at the Strait of Hormuz remains active, with deployed troops maintaining full readiness.

Preparations are also ongoing for a second round of direct talks between the two sides. US Vice President JD Vance is leading the American delegation and is expected to travel to Islamabad for the discussions, alongside Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner.

However, uncertainty remains over Iran’s participation, as Tehran insists it will not engage in negotiations under military pressure or while the blockade continues.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of violating the ceasefire after intercepting one of its vessels in the region. He further questioned Washington’s commitment to diplomacy, arguing that its recent actions undermine international law and trust in the negotiation process.

He made the remark while receiving leaders of the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, at the Government House in Owerri.

Uzodinma said the 2023 election outcome in the region was a “political accident” that would not happen again, insisting that the APC was working to reposition itself.

He urged party members to close ranks and prioritise unity, stressing that internal disagreements should not weaken the party’s collective goal.

According to him, the South East must align more closely with the ruling party at the centre to remain relevant in national politics.

He added that deeper involvement in the APC would help the region secure greater benefits from the federal government.

Uzodinma also expressed confidence that President Tinubu would record strong support in the South East during the 2027 elections, pledging that the region would play a key role in his re-election victory.

He further assured that efforts were underway to maintain peace and stability in the region while cautioning party members against allowing internal party contests to create division ahead of the primaries.
