Reports indicate that the situation has left grassroots mobilisers and political stakeholders confused about the governor’s next move ahead of the 2027 elections.

The uncertainty began after Mohammed’s remarks on March 31, 2026, during a meeting with a delegation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

At the meeting, the governor admitted that the PDP was facing internal challenges and that reconciliation efforts had not yielded results.

“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” he said, noting that consultations were extending beyond the PDP.

Shortly after the ADC engagement, Mohammed was also reported to have met with key figures in the All Progressives Congress (APC), including its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, further fueling defection speculation.

However, the situation shifted again on April 18, when an exit committee reportedly said plans to move to the APC had been suspended due to disagreements over a proposed 60/40 power-sharing arrangement.

A supporter and mobiliser, Idris Abdul’aziz, told Punch that the developments have left loyalists confused.

“Politics is often described as a game of interest, but what we are witnessing now goes beyond that. As loyalists, we are confused,” he said.

He added that the lack of clarity has made it difficult for supporters to communicate consistent information to the public, noting that signals have swung between the ADC and APC without a clear direction.

Despite the uncertainty, he said supporters remain committed to following the governor wherever he eventually goes.

Another supporter, Yusuf Makama, Coordinator of the Kaura Media Forum in Dass Local Government Area, urged calm, describing the governor’s actions as strategic rather than indecisive.

He said Mohammed’s achievements in office already give him a strong political base, adding that ongoing developments reflect careful planning ahead of 2027.

Makama also suggested that the APC could offer a stronger platform if PDP challenges persist, though he maintained that supporters would remain loyal to the governor’s decision.

He, however, dismissed the ADC as lacking unity and a credible structure for national competition.

Meanwhile, the PDP faction in Bauchi State has appealed for calm among members. Its Publicity Secretary, Dayyabu Chiroma, said the party is carefully monitoring the situation.

He assured members that ongoing delays and political manoeuvres would ultimately serve their interests, adding that stakeholders had been briefed ahead of upcoming primaries.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30 as the deadline for political parties to conduct primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
