Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has shared a deeply emotional story about a difficult period in his family’s history.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He recounted how his father narrowly escaped death after being implicated in an alleged coup during Nigeria’s military era.

Speaking in an interview, the actor explained that the incident occurred while he was still an infant. His father, Colonel Moses Effiong, was arrested after being linked to a plot reportedly aimed at removing former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida from power.

According to him, the situation began when his father was informed of the alleged plan by a close colleague in the military. This left him in a tough position—whether to keep silent or report the information. However, when the plot was eventually uncovered, the colleague was arrested and later mentioned Colonel Effiong during interrogation.

This led to his father’s arrest and subsequent trial, where he was convicted and handed a death sentence by firing squad.

Daniel revealed that in a dramatic twist, his father was spared on the day the execution was meant to take place, surviving what appeared to be a certain fate.

He added that the experience left a lasting impact on their family, shaping much of his early life as they lived with the memory of that traumatic period.

Tinubu Will Still Win 2027 Despite Poor Performance – APC Chieftain Yusuf Claims.

Published

on

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Abubakar Yusuf, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 presidential election, despite what he described as the current government’s underwhelming performance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former federal lawmaker argued that Tinubu’s re-election is likely because the opposition lacks unity and cannot mount a strong challenge.

He said he does not expect opposition politicians to come together in a way that could threaten the president’s chances.

According to him, “APC will win in 2027, not because President Tinubu has done well, but because there is no opposition. There is no challenge in the opposition. Individually, they are very credible, but as a team, I don’t see them working together. Tinubu will more likely win in the 2027 election.”

Yusuf added that the ruling party is not worried about the opposition due to its fragmented nature.

However, he cautioned President Tinubu against relying heavily on APC governors for electoral support, warning that many of them may not have strong grassroots popularity.

He also warned that internal disagreements within the party, especially over candidate selection, could trigger serious conflicts and weaken the APC if not properly handled.

“APC is not jittery because we don’t have a challenge. What we should worry about is an intra-party crisis. There may be implosions if care is not taken. If they insist on an automatic ticket, they will lose many members to other parties. There will be implosions if they refuse to allow free and fair elections,” he said.

Yusuf further advised the president not to overestimate the influence of some governors, adding that several of them are not widely popular among voters.

SSANU Threatens Indefinite Strike Over FG’s 30% Salary Increment Plan.

Published

on

The Federal Government has approved a 30 per cent salary increase for non-academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, in a move aimed at addressing long-standing welfare concerns in the education sector.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision is intended to improve the conditions of service for administrative and technical workers in higher institutions. It comes after years of agitation by unions over pay disparities, unpaid entitlements, and following a recent 40 per cent salary adjustment granted to academic staff.

The approval was contained in a letter dated March 30, 2026, signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. It stated that the increase would be implemented through a consolidated allowance structure for non-teaching staff.

Relevant education agencies were directed to begin implementation based on guidelines attached to the memo.

However, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has rejected the development, insisting that negotiations with the government are still ongoing and no final agreement has been reached.

Following a National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, the union dismissed reports suggesting a concluded deal, saying discussions were still in progress.

SSANU also expressed concern over a circulating letter on the salary adjustment, arguing that it does not reflect the outcome of negotiations so far.

The union maintained it would not accept any arrangement that does not follow due process and agreed terms, stressing the need for fairness in the negotiation process.

It also reiterated its earlier warning, giving the Federal Government until April 30, 2026, to conclude talks or risk an indefinite strike in collaboration with NASU.

Members were advised to remain alert and await further directives from the union leadership.
