ADC Convention: INEC Failed In Its Duty – Aregbesola Claims.

Published

on

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its decision to stay away from the party’s national convention, describing it as a breach of duty.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Aregbesola made the remarks on Tuesday during the ADC national convention held at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja.

The controversy follows INEC’s April 1 decision to distance itself from party factions amid an ongoing leadership crisis, with the commission insisting it would not engage any side due to a Court of Appeal ruling maintaining the status quo in the dispute.

However, the David Mark-led faction of the ADC rejected INEC’s position, accusing the electoral body of bias.

Speaking at the event, Aregbesola insisted that the party complied fully with all legal requirements, including proper notification to INEC, and therefore saw no justification for the commission’s absence.

He said INEC was constitutionally required to attend and monitor the convention, adding that its failure to do so amounted to dereliction of duty.

The former Osun State governor argued that under the Electoral Act, only failure to notify INEC can invalidate a party’s convention or congress.

He maintained that ADC had duly notified the commission and received acknowledgement of its correspondence, including letters signed and delivered in March.

Aregbesola further alleged that INEC’s conduct raises concerns about neutrality, suggesting the commission may be undermining the opposition.

He also faulted INEC’s reliance on the Court of Appeal ruling, arguing that it did not stop the commission from monitoring party activities.

Reaffirming the party’s legitimacy, he stressed that the ADC remains a duly registered political party with structures nationwide and has not been proscribed by any court or law.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
