News reports that Akpabio made the remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) headquarters in Abuja, saying the issue had been misunderstood and taken out of context.

He explained that the comment in question was made before Amupitan assumed office as INEC chairman, stressing that individuals are entitled to express political opinions before holding public office.

According to him, the alleged post should not be used to question the neutrality of the electoral body.

Akpabio said, “For me, whether manipulated or not, he said victory is sure. He was not chairman of INEC then; he was just a lecturer, and anybody can support whoever he wishes to.”

He argued that the statement did not mention any political party and had been wrongly interpreted.

The Senate President further noted that political actors often misrepresent issues for their own advantage, insisting that the comment was not evidence of bias.

Akpabio added that the alleged post was being wrongly framed, saying the public was ignoring clarifications that it had been manipulated.

His comments come amid growing reactions over the alleged post attributed to the INEC chairman.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on November 21 for the APC rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall.

The planned event comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the proposed venue attracting public attention.

Addressing the issue, Makinde maintained that public facilities belong to the people of Oyo State and should be managed transparently and fairly, without political bias.

According to him, “public assets belong to the people of Oyo State and must be administered in a manner that is transparent, equitable, and devoid of partisan considerations.”

He added that democracy thrives when political parties have equal opportunities to engage with voters within the confines of the law.

Makinde further explained that access to government-owned facilities is subject to established procedures and regulations designed to ensure proper use, maintenance and public order.

He stated that any political party or organisation that meets the stipulated requirements should not be subjected to discrimination or unfair restrictions when seeking to use such facilities.
