INEC Chairman Amupitan Faces Sack Threat Over Alleged Public Deception — Ex-Presidential Candidate.

Published

Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has weighed in on the controversy surrounding alleged social media posts linked to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Adebayo said the issue goes beyond the content of the alleged posts and raises serious concerns about honesty and public trust.

He noted that the controversy touches on the credibility of statements made by public officials, especially someone occupying a sensitive position such as the head of the electoral body.

Adebayo explained that the National Assembly has constitutional powers to summon the INEC chairman and require him to testify under oath over the matter.

According to him, if Amupitan gives sworn testimony and subsequent forensic investigations prove his claims false, it could attract grave consequences.

He stressed that the real issue would not be the social media post itself, but whether a public official deliberately misled Nigerians.

Adebayo added that the office of the INEC chairman demands a high level of integrity because of its critical role in overseeing elections.

He said: “The National Assembly can call him and ask him to swear to an oath to speak to us. If he swears to an oath in front of the National Assembly and continues to maintain his position, and a forensic examination by the National Assembly shows that it’s actually his post, he could be removed, not because he posted, but because he’s lying to the public. And INEC chairmanship is an office where you are expected to be a person of integrity.”

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has openly backed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred governorship candidate under the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sule made this known during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, a move seen as an early signal of political succession plans in the state.

Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West in the 10th Senate, recently dumped the Social Democratic Party for the APC, further fuelling speculations about his governorship ambition.

The governor also faulted public officials who parade routine duties like salary payments, road construction and provision of basic amenities as landmark achievements.

Speaking on Wednesday at the 59th inaugural lecture of Nasarawa State University, Sule said governance should go beyond basic responsibilities and focus on policies that directly improve people’s lives.

According to him, leaders must think beyond conventional projects and pursue solutions that bring lasting impact to citizens.

Using his administration as an example, Sule recalled how frequent fire outbreaks at a major market used to force the government into repeated relief payouts to traders.

He said rather than continuing temporary interventions, his government chose to build a modern market to permanently tackle the problem, adding that there has been no report of another fire incident since the reconstruction.

Sule also highlighted the construction of a bridge in Auta near Keffi, which he said has greatly reduced years of devastating flooding in the area.

At the event, Ike Neliaku praised Sule’s development strides, especially road and infrastructure projects across key parts of the state.

Also speaking, Emmanuel Dandaura stressed the need for institutions to align communication with performance, warning that failure to do so could erode public trust.
