Ahmad Lawan Calls For Probe Into Airstrike That Killed Civilians In Borno–Yobe Border Market....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has raised concern over reports of civilian casualties following a military airstrike on a market along the Borno–Yobe border.

Lawan, who represents Yobe North Senatorial District, said the operation, which was aimed at suspected Boko Haram insurgents, reportedly resulted in the deaths and injuries of many civilians in Jilli Futchimiram, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.

In a statement, he said he was deeply disturbed by eyewitness accounts suggesting that multiple military aircraft took part in the strike, which allegedly hit a busy local market.

He noted that reports indicated over 100 people may have been killed, while several others sustained injuries. Medical personnel at Geidam General Hospital were said to have treated at least 35 severely injured victims, with fears that the death toll could still rise.

Lawan stressed the need for a full, transparent, and independent investigation into the incident, despite acknowledging the sacrifices of the military in the fight against insurgency. He said civilians must not bear the cost of operations meant to target terrorists.

He also extended condolences to the Yobe State Government and affected families, praying for the repose of the dead and recovery of the injured.

The former Senate President urged authorities to allow unfettered investigations, ensure proper medical care for survivors, and provide support for victims’ families.
