Edo: Five Police Officers Arrested Over Alleged Kidnapping, Extortion Scandal
Five officers attached to the Edo State Police Command have been arrested over allegations of abduction, extortion, and harassment of members of the public.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The officers include ASP Bonny Paul Onajite, Inspectors Ehubarieme Wisdom and Arebame God’s Power, as well as Corporals Mordi Philip and Okon Elvis.
Others arrested alongside them are a POS operator, Goodluck Jaja; Destiny Emmanuel, a dismissed police corporal; and two commercial bus drivers, Samuel Nicholas and Etim Bright.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Edo State, Eno Ikoedem, said the suspects operated around the Teboga axis, where they allegedly stopped unsuspecting residents, forcefully moved them within Benin City, and took them to POS operators to withdraw money under duress.
She said the arrests followed multiple complaints from residents over persistent harassment, abduction, and extortion by individuals impersonating or working as police officers.
The command explained that the syndicate was uncovered through sustained surveillance, technical intelligence, and coordinated operations.
The arrested officers are currently facing internal disciplinary measures, including orderly room trials, while investigations continue. They are expected to be arraigned in court upon conclusion of the process.
Residents who may have been victims have been urged to come forward with useful information to support ongoing investigations and prosecution.
The command also warned POS operators and business owners to be cautious of individuals, including those in police uniform, who attempt to use their services for illegal transactions or extortion, noting that anyone found complicit will face prosecution.

Speaking on his departure, the 57-year-old tactician expressed mixed feelings but took pride in his achievements with the national team.
“That’s football… Saudi Arabia have qualified for the World Cup seven times, including twice with me,” he told AFP.
Renard added, “And there’s only one coach who has taken them through both the qualifiers and the World Cup; that’s me, in 2022. At least there will be that sense of pride.”
He returned for a second spell as Saudi Arabia coach at the end of 2024, having previously managed the side between 2019 and 2023.
During his first stint, he guided Saudi Arabia to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they famously defeated eventual champions Argentina in the group stage.
Renard is highly regarded for his international coaching record, having won the Africa Cup of Nations twice—first with Zambia and later with Ivory Coast.
He also previously managed the French women’s national team, leading them to the quarter-finals of both the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.
His return to the Saudi job followed the exit of Roberto Mancini, who left after a disappointing 14-month spell.
However, Renard’s second tenure has now ended abruptly ahead of the global tournament.
Reports suggest that former Greece international Georgios Donis is being considered as his possible replacement.
A source close to the discussions told AFP that talks are ongoing between the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and Saudi club Al Khaleej, where Donis has been in charge since 2024.
Saudi Arabia are set to compete in Group H at the 2026 World Cup alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
The team will now head into the tournament under new leadership as preparations continue for the global competition.

Abdulkarim claimed that Kwankwaso has agreed to serve as Obi’s running mate in the 2027 presidential race, stating that discussions around the arrangement are already known within both the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya political movements.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, he insisted that the deal had been concluded, saying both camps were aware of the agreement.
“Yes, I can categorically tell you that they have agreed. We all know that. Both the Obidients and the Kwankwassiyya Movements are aware of the agreement,” he said.
Kwankwaso’s recent political move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has further fueled speculation about a possible joint ticket between him and Obi for the 2027 election.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi’s spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, has argued that political parties seeking victory in 2027 should consider zoning their presidential ticket to the South.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Tanko said maintaining the current power rotation would strengthen any party’s chances at the polls.
He warned that deviating from zoning arrangements could weaken electoral prospects, adding that Nigerians should critically assess the political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
