US Imposes Visa Restrictions Over Religious Freedom Violations In Nigeria.

The United States government has begun enforcing a policy that empowers the US State Department to impose visa restrictions on individuals linked to violations of religious freedom in Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The development was disclosed by Mark Walker, the US Principal Adviser for Global Religious Freedom, who said the measure is already being implemented.

Walker made the announcement in a post on X on Friday, noting that individuals accused of religious persecution would face stricter scrutiny and could be denied entry into the United States.

“We have already executed on this policy, and we will continue to subject perpetrators to additional scrutiny,” he stated.

He further stressed that those involved in religious persecution would not be welcomed in the US, adding that the country remains safer by blocking their entry.

“If you engage in persecution, you are not welcome in America. The United States is safer when we keep those responsible for religious persecution from entering our homeland,” he said.

The visa restriction policy was originally announced in December by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, targeting individuals who “knowingly direct, authorize, fund, support, or carry out violations of religious freedom.”

Rubio explained that the move is part of broader efforts to respond to violence against Christians in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

The policy followed a resolution introduced by US Congressman Chris Smith, who also called for visa bans and asset freezes on individuals and groups accused of serious religious freedom violations in Nigeria.

The resolution named groups such as the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore in connection with alleged abuses.

Earlier in February, some US lawmakers also proposed sanctions against former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso over alleged complicity in religious freedom violations.

However, Walker did not disclose any names of individuals currently affected by the newly enforced visa restrictions.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
