Social Democratic Party (Nigeria) Says Gabam Remains Expelled, Insists Gombe Is Authentic Chairman
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Thursday restated that its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, remains expelled from the party, while maintaining that Dr Sadiq Gombe is its authentic leader.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, saying the clarification was necessary amid rising confusion over the interpretation of recent Court of Appeal judgments linked to the Ekiti State governorship primary held on August 8, 2025.
Aiyenigba alleged that Gabam was deliberately misrepresenting court decisions in an attempt to mislead the public and revive his political relevance.
According to the statement, the SDP warned that unchecked misinformation could easily be accepted as truth if not properly corrected, insisting it was setting the record straight on the matter.
The party described Gabam as an expelled former chairman who, it said, had become part of its past, adding that he was aware his efforts to return to office had failed.
It further maintained that no court ruling had removed Gombe as chairman, stressing that the referenced judgments were strictly related to disputes over governorship primaries in Ekiti and Osun states, not the party’s leadership structure.
The SDP reiterated that Gabam was suspended in June 2025 and expelled in October over alleged financial misconduct, with the decision later ratified by the National Executive Committee on March 9, 2026, during a meeting observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
It added that Gabam is no longer a member of the party and is currently facing criminal proceedings over alleged misappropriation of party funds and abuse of office.
Reaffirming its position, the party stated that Dr Sadiq Gombe remains the National Chairman.
Despite the internal dispute, the SDP said it remains focused on strengthening its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, including ongoing membership registration and alliance-building efforts.
