New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has said he does not consider himself better than his predecessors, Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor, as he prepares for his first Premier League match in charge.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Spurs will travel to face Sunderland on Sunday in a crucial relegation clash, with De Zerbi appointed on March 31 after the club slipped to just one point above the drop zone with seven games remaining.

De Zerbi becomes Tottenham’s third manager this season, following Frank and Tudor, the latter lasting only 44 days and seven matches.

The Italian expressed gratitude to the club’s leadership for the opportunity, saying he intends to bring his own style, character, and strengths to help the team achieve its immediate goal of survival.

Tottenham have struggled this year, failing to win a league game in 2026 and recording just two victories since October. Their European campaign also ended in the round of 16 after a heavy aggregate defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Despite their current position, the club has a strong history, having spent only one season outside the top flight since 1950.

De Zerbi described the role as a major opportunity, calling the Premier League the best league in the world and Tottenham one of its most important clubs.

He urged his players to earn the support of fans through improved performances, acknowledging that supporters have endured a difficult season.

The team has also been hit by injuries to key players such as Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, while Dominic Solanke has only recently returned from injury. Xavi Simons has also struggled with fitness.

Summer signing Mohammed Kudus is likely to miss the rest of the season due to a thigh injury, while goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is unavailable after undergoing hernia surgery. Rodrigo Bentancur is still working his way back to full fitness.

De Zerbi said attackers like Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel, and Richarlison must step up in the absence of key players.

Despite the relegation threat, he expressed a desire to remain at the club long term, stating that his immediate focus is on helping Tottenham stay in the Premier League before thinking about future ambitions.

According to reports, the governor stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

Makinde was reacting to concerns over the proposed use of the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its presidential campaign rally.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on November 21 for the APC rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall.

The planned event comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the proposed venue attracting public attention.

Addressing the issue, Makinde maintained that public facilities belong to the people of Oyo State and should be managed transparently and fairly, without political bias.

According to him, “public assets belong to the people of Oyo State and must be administered in a manner that is transparent, equitable, and devoid of partisan considerations.”

The governor stressed that his administration remains committed to ensuring a level playing field for all political stakeholders, irrespective of their party affiliations. He added that democracy thrives when political parties have equal opportunities to engage with voters within the confines of the law.

Makinde further explained that access to government-owned facilities is subject to established procedures and regulations designed to ensure proper use, maintenance and public order.

He stated that any political party or organisation that meets the stipulated requirements should not be subjected to discrimination or unfair restrictions when seeking to use such facilities.

The governor also urged political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly. He called on relevant authorities to handle requests for public facilities professionally, fairly and without prejudice.

The statement reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to promoting political tolerance, safeguarding democratic freedoms and creating an environment where legitimate political activities can take place in accordance with the law.
