ADC Crisis Deepens Nationwide As State Congresses Collapse.

Published

A member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has criticised how the leadership led by David Mark emerged in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He alleged that influential political figures have taken over the party amid its ongoing leadership crisis.

Abejide made the claim on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

When asked to identify those he referred to as “hijackers,” he named former Senate President David Mark, ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and others.

He argued that the emergence of the current leadership lacked proper consultation with existing party members.

“If you are joining an existing party, you should first engage those already there. Why not meet with them and have discussions?” he said.

Responding to questions on whether he had interacted with key figures linked to the coalition, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi, Abejide said he had never met with any of them.

“I have never met them, and none of them has reached out to me,” he stated.

He also rejected claims that he was sidelined for being perceived as disloyal, insisting that his stance was based on due process.

“I am not a sellout. This is not about me being consulted or not; it is about following the law. This party must not be destroyed,” he said.

Referring to the party’s constitution, Abejide maintained that the process used to install the current leadership did not comply with laid-down procedures.

He argued that those who assumed leadership positions had not met basic requirements at the time.

“At the point they took over, they were not registered in their wards and were not recognised members of the ADC,” he said.

He further explained that the proper process would have been to admit new members, notify INEC with the required 21-day notice for a national convention, and formally amend the party’s constitution.

“If that process had been followed, there would have been no grounds for legal disputes. Instead, they assumed control immediately, as if elections were imminent,” he added.

Momodu had argued that a pairing of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi could perform strongly in the election, citing their past collaboration in 2019 and Obi’s 2023 electoral performance.

Responding, Tanko questioned the logic of choosing a candidate who might win a primary but lose the general election, insisting that the Obi–Kwankwaso combination would be more formidable.

He further warned that if the ADC fails to zone its presidential ticket to the South, the party risks losing the 2027 election.

Tanko maintained that with Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on the same ticket, victory would be decisive and swift.
