Bauchi APC Divided Over Moves To Admit Bala Mohammed.

Published

The All Progressives Congress Bauchi State Caucus is in turmoil over plans to admit Bala Mohammed into the party, revealing deep divisions within the state chapter regarding his potential political realignment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The disagreement surfaced during a caucus meeting in Abuja, where party leaders reportedly debated the political and structural implications of welcoming the Bauchi governor into the APC.

To ease tensions, caucus members agreed to establish a high-powered committee tasked with harmonising the party’s stance on the issue.

According to Premium Times, the caucus’s Acting Secretary, Dabo Ismail, explained that the committee is responsible for communicating the caucus’s demands and conditions to the APC national leadership if Mohammed’s defection talks advance. The committee will also engage key stakeholders to ensure an inclusive negotiation process, represent the caucus in all discussions regarding defections from the Peoples Democratic Party administration in Bauchi, and provide regular updates to members.

Ismail stressed that while Mohammed would be welcomed into the APC if he chose to join, state stakeholders must not be sidelined in the process. He described the committee’s formation as a democratic step to manage differing views within the party while maintaining unity.

Caucus Chairman and Sama’ila Dahuwa criticised what they termed the APC national leadership’s failure to consult state stakeholders on such a sensitive political matter. The caucus argued that excluding local leaders undermines internal democracy, inclusiveness, and respect for party structures.

“The omission is unacceptable,” Dahuwa said, warning against any attempt to impose decisions on the state chapter without meaningful engagement with grassroots members.

He revealed that the new committee includes prominent party figures, including a serving minister, former governors, and two senators. The caucus also resolved to formally communicate its concerns and position to the APC national leadership, insisting that due process and internal consultation guide any discussions on defections.

Members cautioned that poor management of high-profile defections could alienate loyalists and weaken party cohesion in Bauchi State.

The controversy emerges amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several governors from the Peoples Democratic Party and other opposition parties moving to the ruling APC, further consolidating its control across states. Currently, the APC governs 31 of the 36 states, leaving only five states under opposition parties: PDP (2), Accord (1), APGA (1), and Labour Party (1).

On March 31, Mohammed announced plans to join the African Democratic Congress, signalling a potential shift in Bauchi’s political scene. Speculation about his next move intensified after APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf visited the Bauchi Government House in a closed-door meeting.

According to reports, the governor stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

Makinde was reacting to concerns over the proposed use of the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its presidential campaign rally.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on November 21 for the APC rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall.

The planned event comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the proposed venue attracting public attention.

Addressing the issue, Makinde maintained that public facilities belong to the people of Oyo State and should be managed transparently and fairly, without political bias.

According to him, “public assets belong to the people of Oyo State and must be administered in a manner that is transparent, equitable, and devoid of partisan considerations.”

The governor stressed that his administration remains committed to ensuring a level playing field for all political stakeholders, irrespective of their party affiliations. He added that democracy thrives when political parties have equal opportunities to engage with voters within the confines of the law.

Makinde further explained that access to government-owned facilities is subject to established procedures and regulations designed to ensure proper use, maintenance and public order.

He stated that any political party or organisation that meets the stipulated requirements should not be subjected to discrimination or unfair restrictions when seeking to use such facilities.

The governor also urged political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly. He called on relevant authorities to handle requests for public facilities professionally, fairly and without prejudice.

The statement reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to promoting political tolerance, safeguarding democratic freedoms and creating an environment where legitimate political activities can take place in accordance with the law.
