A viral video shows a group of men, said to be terminal officials, attempting to forcefully take the journalist’s camera while coverage was ongoing.

The TVC News crew reportedly resisted the move, resulting in a brief standoff at the scene.

According to the station, other journalists at the terminal were also intimidated and blocked from documenting the extent of the damage.

“Tension escalated at the Kugbo Bus Terminal when officials tried to seize a TVC News camera during coverage of the destruction,” the station stated.

“They confronted our correspondent and attempted to confiscate equipment, leading to a brief confrontation. Other journalists were equally harassed and stopped from doing their job.”

The incident occurred after a powerful rainstorm on Tuesday reportedly damaged parts of the newly built terminal.

The storm, which came with strong winds, ripped off sections of the roofing and scattered debris across the Maraba–Nyanya axis in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This led to heavy traffic congestion along the busy route, with some commuters forced to walk long distances as vehicles struggled through flooded, debris-filled roads.

The Kugbo Bus Terminal is a multi-billion-naira transport project overseen by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

It is part of a broader ₦51 billion project approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in May 2024 for the construction of three major terminals in the FCT.

The terminals, located in Kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District, are being handled by Planet Projects Nigeria Limited.

Although the Kugbo terminal is yet to commence full operations, the recent damage has sparked concern among residents and commuters.

Some commuters questioned the durability of the structure.

“It’s alarming that a project of this scale could suffer such damage so quickly,” one commuter said.

“Authorities need to prioritise the safety and durability of public infrastructure.”

The situation has also raised fresh concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists covering public projects.

Media stakeholders insist that journalists should be allowed to report without intimidation.

TVC News emphasised the need for a free working environment for the press.

“Journalists must be able to perform their duties without harassment,” the station said, stressing that independent media remains key to transparency and accountability in public projects.

“South Has Had More Time In Power” — Atiku Speaks On Zoning Debate

Published

on

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has argued that the North is not disadvantaged in Nigeria’s power-sharing arrangement under democratic rule.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Atiku made the statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he spoke on zoning, fairness, and political balance in the country.

He noted that since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, the South has held the presidency for about 18 years, while the North has governed for roughly 10 years.

According to him, this should be taken into account when discussing which region has benefited more from the country’s power rotation system. He also maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the only major political party with zoning clearly embedded in its constitution.

“The South has governed for 18 years and the North for 10. So who is really in deficit if we are being fair? Even more broadly, the only party with zoning formally entrenched is the PDP,” he said.

Atiku also recalled the constitutional conference held during the military era under General Sani Abacha, where he led a group that opposed the inclusion of rotational presidency in the constitution.

He said the proposal, championed by the late former Vice President Alex Ekwueme, was rejected at the time because his group had majority support among delegates.

According to him, Ekwueme later acknowledged that the decision may not have been ideal during his funeral years later. Atiku added that he now believes a rotational system, if adopted earlier, could have ensured a more balanced distribution of power across Nigeria’s regions.
