The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, has dismissed rumours of a rift between him, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Ladoja, affirming that his relationship with both leaders remains cordial.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking with journalists in Oyo town on Tuesday, the monarch clarified that there is no disagreement between him and the governor, noting that any issues, if they arise, would be handled privately.

“I have nothing against the government. The governor has been very supportive. If there is any concern, I will address it directly with him,” he said.

On the newly inaugurated Oyo Council of Obas, the Alaafin expressed his backing for initiatives that promote the state’s development, stressing that traditional rulers remain committed to fostering peace and progress across Oyo State.

He also addressed concerns over his recent absence from some state functions, explaining that he had been unwell, which affected his participation in public events.

“There is no misunderstanding. I maintain a good relationship with the governor. I have been indisposed for some time, but I will attend functions when I am fit,” he added.

Reacting to the widely circulated video involving the Olubadan, the Alaafin said the incident had been misinterpreted.

The clip, recorded during the 2026 Inter-Faith service at the Secretariat’s Grand Space behind the Oyo State House of Assembly in Ibadan, showed Oba Owoade extending a handshake while seated, which appeared not to be acknowledged by Oba Ladoja at the time.

The moment sparked public debate over royal protocol and hierarchy.

However, the Alaafin explained that the Olubadan later clarified he did not notice the gesture.

“My relationship with the Olubadan is cordial. Some people spread false narratives online just to follow trends. There is no issue between us,” he said.

“I extended my hand, but he later explained that he didn’t see it. I do not consider it an offence.”

He added that both monarchs have since interacted, including meetings at Aso Rock and during an iftar, reinforcing that there is no tension between them.

Oba Owoade attributed the speculation about a feud to misinformation circulating online, alleging that some bloggers deliberately create controversy.

“People spreading rumours are doing so because of the throne. Some bloggers create problems where none exist. It comes with the position, but I hold no grudge against anyone,” he said.

The monarch also highlighted ongoing development efforts in Oyo town, revealing that a land committee has been set up to address disputes, while plans are in place to build a civic centre. He added that renovation work is currently ongoing at the palace.

He further disclosed that preparations are underway for his birthday on July 18, during which three individuals will be honoured with chieftaincy titles.

Commending the media for its support, he described journalists as key partners in development and reiterated his commitment to peace, unity, and progress, urging the public to ignore rumours and support traditional institutions.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is free to join the ruling party at any time he chooses.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Yilwatda made the statement on Wednesday during a media chat in Abuja, stressing that membership of the APC is voluntary and not forced on anyone.

According to him, Wike remains at liberty to decide his political future, and there is no obligation for appointees to formally join the ruling party before serving in government.

“If he wants to join the APC, he is free. We don’t compel people to join; they do so willingly,” he said.

He added that cross-party appointments are not new in Nigeria’s political history, noting that past administrations also appointed members of opposition parties into key positions.

Yilwatda cited examples such as Bala Mohammed and Adamu Aliero, who served as ministers under PDP governments despite being affiliated with other parties at the time.

He questioned the criticism directed at President Bola Tinubu over Wike’s appointment, arguing that similar decisions were taken by previous administrations without controversy.

The APC chairman also pointed to other non-APC members serving in the current government, saying Wike should not be singled out.

He further stated that Wike obtained approval from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before accepting the ministerial appointment in 2023.

Yilwatda maintained that President Tinubu has continued to demonstrate openness by appointing individuals across party lines based on competence.

APC Defends Wike, Says PDP Backed His Ministerial Appointment.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) approved the appointment of Nyesom Wike as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Yilwatda made the statement on Wednesday during a media chat in Abuja, while addressing questions about Wike’s continued membership of the PDP despite serving in an APC-led government.

He explained that the appointment was not unusual, noting that past administrations had also appointed opposition members into ministerial positions.

According to him, former ministers such as Bala Mohammed and Adamu Aliero served under PDP-led governments despite their party affiliations at the time.

“President Jonathan discovered Bala Mohammed was good enough and brought him from ANPP,” he said.

“Aliero was also appointed by President Yar’Adua from ANPP because of his experience,” he added.

Yilwatda argued that criticism of President Tinubu over Wike’s appointment was unfair, insisting it followed past political precedents.

He also cited other opposition figures currently serving in the government, saying the focus on Wike alone was selective.

The APC chairman further claimed that Wike formally notified the PDP National Working Committee in 2023 before accepting the ministerial appointment, and that the party gave its approval.

“Wike wrote the National Working Committee of the PDP before he took the appointment,” he said.

Yilwatda maintained that Wike’s position in the current administration was with the consent of the PDP, not solely the APC.
