Former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Agbonayinma announced his decision during a press briefing in Benin City on Wednesday, stating that his resignation is effective immediately. The former lawmaker, who plans to return to the National Assembly, said he will soon disclose the political party under which he intends to contest in the next general election.

He explained that his departure stems from internal party issues, including lack of respect for his leadership in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, marginalisation of Edo South in political appointments, and undemocratic practices.

Agbonayinma, who also previously served on the Code of Conduct Bureau, said he could no longer remain in a party he believes has strayed from democratic principles. He alleged that individuals who undermined the party during elections are now influencing key decisions within its structure.

“As a foundation member from the days of AC, ACN, ACD, now APC, we worked diligently to build an inclusive democratic institution. It is deeply distressing to see the party in our constituency gradually becoming the property of one or a few individuals unnecessarily interfering in its political affairs in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government,” he said.

Agbonayinma noted that his decision followed a careful review of recent developments and observed anti-democratic tendencies within the party. “After evaluating recent developments and activities within APC, I regret to inform you of my decision to resign with immediate effect. At this point in my political journey, and in line with my convictions, principles, and vision for purposeful service, I have concluded that this step is necessary,” he added.

Despite leaving the party, Agbonayinma said he still respects many members of APC and remains dedicated to public service. “While I am stepping away from the party, my respect for the institution and sincere, hardworking members remains unwavering. I remain committed to serving the people, strengthening democracy, and pursuing a better future for Edo State and Nigeria,” he said.

Agbonayinma’s resignation is expected to surprise many supporters and party leaders in Edo State. He has long been a prominent APC figure in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area and has openly expressed his intention to return to the National Assembly.
