The declaration came on Tuesday during the formal inauguration of the Forum of South-East Former Governors, a platform designed to advise and support serving governors on regional and national matters. The communiqué summarizing the forum’s first meeting was read by the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi.
According to the communiqué, the forum is a non-partisan body open to all former South-East governors, regardless of political affiliation. It aims to assist current governors and offer guidance on critical zonal and national issues.
The former governors commended Tinubu for what they termed an “infrastructure revolution” in the South-East and for appointing notable individuals from the region to key positions within his administration.
“We highly commend the President for his significant appointments of sons and daughters of the South-East, and for the infrastructure development in the region, as seen across the country,” the communiqué stated.
The forum also acknowledged the Federal Government’s support to state administrations nationwide, noting that such backing has fueled developmental progress in the South-East. They additionally praised current South-East governors for their work in infrastructure, security, and empowerment initiatives.
Strategic Backing for 2027
The former governors declared that serving South-East governors are united in supporting Tinubu’s reelection in the 2027 general elections.
“We boldly affirm that all the governors of the South-East are backing the President’s reelection, and we commend them for this strategic decision. We pledge our continued support in this regard,” the communiqué added.
As part of its next steps, the forum plans to engage directly with serving governors through courtesy visits to outline objectives and explore collaboration opportunities. It also pledged to promote development initiatives and raise citizen awareness of both state and federal government efforts.
Attending the inaugural meeting were former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chris Ngige, Sullivan Chime, Okezie Ikpeazu, David Umahi, and Martin Elechi. While some were absent due to health or other commitments, the forum expects over 90% participation in future gatherings.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
