1,402 Christians Killed In Nigeria Jan-Apr 2026 – Intersociety Claims.

A human rights organization, the International Society for Civil Rights and Rule of Law (Intersociety), has alleged ongoing persecution and killings of Christians across Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Intersociety, which has been advocating against what it describes as a genocidal campaign targeting Christians, said in a statement on Monday that attacks on Christians and churches are increasing, with alleged involvement or complicity from state actors.

The statement was signed by Emeka Umeagbalasi (Head, Intersociety), Chidinma Evangeline Udegbunam (Head, Campaign and Publicity), and Obianuju Joy Igboeli (Head, Civil Liberties and Rule of Law).

The group claimed that, despite Nigeria’s government spending tens of millions of dollars since October 2025 on international lobbying to deny the “Nigerian Christian Genocide,” the attacks on Christians and churches have continued to escalate. They accused security agencies of showing bias and protecting jihadist groups, citing statements from government-affiliated Islamic organizations pledging continued violent Islamism until Nigeria becomes a full Sharia state.

According to Intersociety, from January 1 to April 6, 2026, 1,402 Christians were killed and 1,800 abducted. The group said 350 of these deaths occurred from March 20 to April 5, including 102 during Holy Week and 34 on Easter Sunday alone. They noted that 180 of these deaths were among the abducted, highlighting the deadly conditions captives face, such as torture, starvation, gunshot wounds, machete attacks, and untreated injuries.

The organization emphasized the deadly risk of abduction, stating: “Out of every ten abducted Christians, one will not survive; out of 100, ten will not return; out of 1,000, 100 will never come back.”

Intersociety identified Benue, Kaduna, Borno, Plateau, Bauchi, Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba, Adamawa, and Niger as key flashpoints and highlighted that thousands of displaced Christians are currently seeking refuge in various IDP centers across the country.

Supreme Court Ruling Triggers Shake-Up As PDP BoT Takes Control Of Party Leadership.

Published

on

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, has announced that it has assumed control of the party’s national leadership.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the BoT made the declaration on Thursday in a statement signed by Wabara, following the Supreme Court ruling delivered the same day.

According to him, the judgment effectively left the PDP without a clear and recognised leadership structure, making it necessary for the BoT to step in to prevent a vacuum at the top of the party.

Wabara described the ruling as an unfortunate development for the party, adding that it nullified the November 2025 PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee.

He further stated that the Supreme Court also upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, and Kamaldeen Ajibade from their respective positions as National Secretary, National Organising Secretary, and National Legal Adviser.

Wabara explained that the implication of the judgment is that all actions taken by the affected officials—including the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman, the formation of a caretaker committee, and the conduct of the March 29, 2026 convention in Abuja—are null and void.

He added that since both rival leadership structures have now been invalidated, responsibility for steering the party has reverted to the BoT, in line with the PDP Constitution.

Accordingly, the BoT said it has assumed interim leadership to stabilise the party, initiate reconciliation, and ensure continuity ahead of electoral deadlines.

The statement also disclosed that an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) will soon be convened to establish an interim National Working Committee to manage party affairs and prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Wabara commended Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, along with other stakeholders, for their efforts in sustaining the party during the crisis, while urging all factions to unite and put aside personal interests.

He stressed that the party must move toward reconciliation, warning that prolonged internal division would further weaken both the PDP and Nigeria’s democratic process.

Court Adjourns Ex-Taraba Governor’s Trial After Defence Lawyer Abruptly Withdraws.

Published

on

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja has adjourned the ongoing trial of former Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, and former Permanent Secretary, Bello Yero, following a disruption linked to a change in legal representation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Justice S. C. Oriji adjourned the matter on Thursday, April 30, 2026, to June 15, 2026, after Yero’s counsel, Samuel Fagade, informed the court that he had withdrawn his appearance for the second defendant with immediate effect.

The duo is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 15-count charge bordering on alleged conspiracy, breach of trust, and diversion of public funds totalling about ₦27 billion.

During the proceedings, the prosecution had already begun calling its third witness, Taiwo Johns, when the announcement of the lawyer’s withdrawal brought the session to an abrupt halt.

Following the development, the judge asked Yero how he intended to continue the trial without legal representation. The former permanent secretary requested additional time to secure new counsel, saying he currently had no legal team and needed several weeks to make arrangements.

Although prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, did not oppose the adjournment, he expressed concern over the timing and procedure of the withdrawal, noting that the lawyer had been present at the previous hearing when the witness commenced testimony and had not complied with proper notice requirements.

He also questioned claims that Yero lacked representation, stating that another lawyer had earlier appeared with him in court and initially indicated readiness to proceed before stepping aside.

The said lawyer later clarified that discussions with the second defendant had begun but were not concluded.

After hearing from all parties, Justice Oriji granted the application and approved the withdrawal of counsel, fixing June 15, 2026, for continuation of the trial, with additional hearing dates scheduled for July 2, 7, 13, 14, and 15, 2026.
