The appointment letter was handed to Akinremi by Tajudeen Aremu, former Oyo State Head of Service and Bobajiro of Ibadanland, during a retirement reception organised by the International Relations Alumni Association of Obafemi Awolowo University at Jogor Event Centre, Ibadan. The event was attended by dignitaries including Mutiat Ladoja, former First Lady and wife of the Olubadan, Professor Soji Adejumo, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and several family members.
Oba Ladoja said the appointment followed a careful evaluation of Akinremi’s track record and dedication to Ibadanland’s development. “Having considered your past contributions and unwavering commitment to Ibadanland, it is my pleasure to appoint you to this committee, tasked with advancing our community’s economic growth,” the monarch stated, emphasising the need for deliberate efforts to improve livelihoods and revive economic activities in the city.
Speakers at the event lauded Akinremi’s diplomatic career and contributions. Mutiat Ladoja described him as compassionate and committed to Ibadanland’s progress, while Yomi Akano, Managing Director of New Horizon Nigeria, praised his integrity and leadership, recalling Akinremi’s efforts to evacuate Nigerians during the Ukraine crisis. Other speakers highlighted his impact on Obafemi Awolowo University and support for students through the International Relations Alumni Association.
In a side interview, Akinremi expressed gratitude for the recognition, reflecting on the challenges of his career and the motivation to serve Nigeria selflessly. He urged civil servants to prioritize vision and service over financial gain and called on the government to assign key diplomatic roles to career diplomats.
