Former Labour Party presidential candidate and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Peter Obi, has sounded the alarm over Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, declaring that the nation is “bleeding” amid a fresh wave of attacks and killings across multiple states.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement shared on his official X account, Obi expressed deep concern over the persistence of violence despite assurances from the presidency. He criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pointing out that the President’s recent promise that such attacks would not recur has already been contradicted by new incidents.

Obi highlighted that “less than 24 hours after Tinubu visited Jos, Plateau State, on April 2, 2026, and assured grieving citizens that this experience will not repeat itself, another deadly attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel community in Jos South Local Government Area, claiming several lives.”

He further noted that violence has spread across the country within the same week. In Nasarawa State, gunmen struck the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities, killing at least 11 people, burning homes, and displacing residents. Zamfara State reportedly witnessed the abduction of around 150 people from Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji communities in one of the largest recent kidnappings.

Obi also cited attacks in Chibok, Borno State, where four officers were killed and homes burned, as well as fresh violence in Benue State on Easter Sunday that claimed over 17 lives. In Kaduna State, worshippers were killed and others abducted at churches in Ariko, Kachia Local Government Area.

Describing the situation as a leadership failure, Obi stressed that Nigerians are paying with their lives. “Yet we were told, ‘This experience will not repeat itself.’ This represents a failure of leadership and responsibility, and sadly, Nigerians are paying for it with their lives,” he wrote.

He warned that the persistent attacks indicate that perpetrators are emboldened by government inaction and emphasized that protecting lives and property is a core responsibility of any government. Obi concluded by urging urgent and decisive measures to tackle the worsening security crisis, reiterating that Nigeria is “bleeding.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
