Army Denies Reports Of Attack On Bishop Kukah’s Residence And Sokoto Cathedral.
The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto has dismissed viral claims that armed men attacked Bishop Matthew Kukah’s residence and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral, calling the reports false and misleading.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement on Saturday, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division, said the Facebook post was misleading and did not reflect the situation on the ground.
“The attention of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has been drawn to a misleading social media post,” he said. “The post falsely claimed an armed attack on the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral. We categorically debunk these unfounded claims—there was no such attack in Sokoto State.”
The Army assured residents that the bishop’s residence and the cathedral remain safe and that Bishop Kukah continues his Easter activities without disruption. Security measures have been strengthened to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration.
Lt. Col. Osoba emphasized that the Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains committed to protecting lives and property in the state.
Similarly, the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto condemned the viral post, clarifying that the video circulating online was an old clip resurfacing after the murder of Deborah Yakubu in May 2022. Pascal Salifu, Director of Communications for the Diocese, said:
“This is the work of persons intent on causing panic. The information is totally false. The Bishop’s residence, the Cathedral, and the Catholic Pastoral Centre in Sokoto remain safe, intact, and fully operational.”
The Diocese urged the public to avoid spreading unverified content that could incite tension and shared Bishop Kukah’s Easter goodwill message, wishing Christians and residents a joyful and grace-filled celebration. The Church also commended the military and security agencies for their swift response to the false report.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
