Through the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), the Federal Government cautioned against careless or vague expressions, warning that such language can fuel ethnic profiling, deepen divisions, and erode trust across West Africa. The warning was issued during a recent two-day event in Abuja.

Speaking at the gathering, NCTC National Coordinator, Major General Adamu Garba Laka, highlighted the need to examine how language shapes security outcomes. Representing the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, he noted that the framing of security issues can either foster unity or increase distrust among communities.

He added that sustainable security requires more than military efforts, emphasizing prevention, trust-building, and responsible communication. He also pointed out that stereotyping and ethnic profiling can obstruct intelligence gathering and weaken collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

In the same vein, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, underscored the influence of language in security operations and media reporting on national unity. Represented by Nigerian Press Council Executive Secretary, Dili Ezughah, he warned that inaccurate or careless descriptions could reinforce stereotypes, widen societal gaps, and undermine trust in institutions. He stressed the need to clearly separate criminal actions from group identities.

Also contributing, Beacon Security and Intelligence Managing Director, Kabir Adamu, and retired Brigadier-General Saleh Bala noted that biased, identity-driven language often sidelines certain groups and can, in some cases, incite harmful narratives.

Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has expressed disappointment after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his ₦10 billion fundamental human rights suit against Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the actor had approached the court seeking ₦10 billion in damages over the alleged publication of his personal data in INEC’s database.

In the suit, Emeka Ike accused Olayinka and INEC of causing him significant hardship and damage through the alleged disclosure. He asked the court to award him compensation and declare their actions illegal and unconstitutional.

However, delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the case for lacking merit.

The judge held that the actor had failed to establish his claims against the defendants with credible evidence, ruling in favour of Olayinka and INEC.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the judgment, Emeka Ike questioned the meaning of fundamental human rights, expressing concern that people could suffer alleged violations, online bullying and public embarrassment without obtaining justice.

He said: “It’s even crazy that your right will be violated and the judge will tell you it’s not a fundamental human right. Then what is a fundamental human right? The embarrassment, the bullying online.”

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a ₦10 billion lawsuit filed by Nollywood actor Emeka Ike against Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Justice Salim Ibrahim dismissed the suit on Wednesday, ruling that it was not properly filed and that the actor failed to present sufficient evidence to substantiate his claims.

Emeka Ike had instituted the case against Olayinka after the aide allegedly published details of the actor’s voter registration transfer from Imo State to Abuja on his account in May without his consent.

The actor argued that the publication violated his right to privacy and asked the court to award him ₦10 billion in damages.

He also sought an order compelling Olayinka to delete the post and issue a written apology.

However, Olayinka denied any wrongdoing, arguing that the document he shared contained only Ike’s name and passport photograph, which were already publicly available.

INEC also opposed the suit, maintaining that the information was not confidential and that the law permitted the commission to make certain voter registration details accessible to the public.

Olayinka further argued that he did not obtain the information unlawfully and was not responsible for safeguarding Ike’s personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

The court upheld the objections raised by Olayinka and INEC and dismissed the suit, holding that the actor had failed to prove his allegations.

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has weighed in on the ongoing debate over polygamy, insisting that marrying multiple wives is not a sin.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The actor shared his opinion in a post on his Facebook page, where he argued that several great men mentioned in the Bible had multiple wives without attracting God’s condemnation.

Edochie maintained that God had no problem with such men and, in some instances, was even willing to give them more wives.

He further claimed that some men are destined to marry more than one woman but end up having only one wife because they do not fully understand themselves or are afraid of society’s judgement.

According to the actor, such men may eventually struggle in life because they fail to embrace what he believes is their destiny.

He wrote: “Even in the Bible, many great men there had many wives and God never had issues with them. He was even willing to give them more. Today, many men are destined to have many wives but because they don’t know who they are and scared of what society will say they end up having just one and life doesn’t seem to be working for them.”
