“Ex-Rivers Rep Dagogo Blasts INEC: Making It Hard For Opposition To Field 2027 Candidates”.

Published

on

Farah Dagogo, a former member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State and 2023 PDP governorship aspirant, has raised concerns over the impartiality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 elections. Dagogo, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), also commented on the delisting of the Senator David Mark-led ADC faction from INEC’s portal, citing a court order.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Dagogo accused INEC of making it difficult for opposition parties to field candidates in next year’s general elections.

On the ADC Delisting:
“The public outcry over this decision highlights widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians,” Dagogo said. “Many fear that INEC’s actions are pushing the country toward an election that may resemble a coronation of the ruling party rather than a competitive democratic contest. This raises serious questions about INEC’s independence and impartiality.”

He noted that the PDP, once dominant, may lack a presidential candidate for the first time, while the Labour Party struggles as well. “INEC’s interpretation of the Appeal Court ruling, particularly the deregistration of the David Mark-led ADC executive, appears partisan and could disadvantage opposition forces,” he added.

On Nationwide Voter Revalidation:
Dagogo expressed concern over INEC’s plan for a nationwide voter revalidation exercise nine months before the 2027 polls. “While INEC has the power to maintain and update the voter register, requiring existing voters to revalidate shifts responsibility from the commission to citizens. With around 100 million voters, this could lead to mass disenfranchisement, especially among marginalized communities,” he warned. He added that the move could suppress voter participation and increase apathy, benefiting the ruling party.

On ADC as an Alternative:
Dagogo acknowledged skepticism among Nigerians about whether the ADC could offer meaningful change. “People are frustrated with the ruling party’s failure to deliver,” he said. “The ADC is a genuine alternative, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and the welfare of citizens. Nigerians want leadership that restores the economy, security, and good governance, and ADC represents that hope.”

On Presidential Candidate Selection:
Dagogo described the selection of a presidential candidate as a critical but promising opportunity for the ADC. “The party’s strength lies in its unity and commitment to improving lives. With public support and adherence to core values, ADC can emerge stronger and capable of challenging the status quo.”

On ADC’s Growing Influence:
He attributed the ADC’s rise to strategic planning and focus on solving Nigeria’s problems. “While the APC has been mired in political infighting and focused on weakening opposition, the ADC has offered practical solutions. Nigerians are ready for alternatives, and the ADC’s message of integrity, transparency, and development resonates widely.”

On the 9 Trillion Naira Loan:
Dagogo criticized the speedy Senate approval of President Tinubu’s 9 trillion naira loan request. “Nigerians deserve transparency on how such funds will address critical issues like the failing power sector, economic struggles, and insecurity. Borrowing alone will not solve these problems—it must be paired with reforms and investments that create growth and jobs. ADC is offering a government focused on people’s welfare, not political expediency.”

President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on November 21 for the APC rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall.

The planned event comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the proposed venue attracting public attention.

Addressing the issue, Makinde maintained that public facilities belong to the people of Oyo State and should be managed transparently and fairly, without political bias.

According to him, “public assets belong to the people of Oyo State and must be administered in a manner that is transparent, equitable, and devoid of partisan considerations.”

The governor stressed that his administration remains committed to ensuring a level playing field for all political stakeholders, irrespective of their party affiliations. He added that democracy thrives when political parties have equal opportunities to engage with voters within the confines of the law.

Makinde further explained that access to government-owned facilities is subject to established procedures and regulations designed to ensure proper use, maintenance and public order.

He stated that any political party or organisation that meets the stipulated requirements should not be subjected to discrimination or unfair restrictions when seeking to use such facilities.

The governor also urged political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly. He called on relevant authorities to handle requests for public facilities professionally, fairly and without prejudice.

The statement reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to promoting political tolerance, safeguarding democratic freedoms and creating an environment where legitimate political activities can take place in accordance with the law.
