Displaced Tiv Christians from Wukari LGA in Taraba State on Thursday held a peaceful protest, demanding justice and urgent action after spending seven years in IDP camps.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The demonstrators, mainly subsistence farmers, called on the Federal Government and international organizations to ensure their safe return home, highlighting worsening living conditions, economic hardship, and destroyed livelihoods since their displacement in 2019.

Speaking to journalists, protest leader Terhile Ahur accused the Taraba State Government, Wukari Local Government, and Wukari Traditional Council of neglecting their reintegration. He said over 150,000 Tiv people are currently displaced in neighboring Benue State.

Ahur claimed the crisis has destroyed more than 300 churches, 70 schools, and 30 primary healthcare centers in Tiv communities. He traced the conflict to 2019 clashes between Jukun and Tiv groups in Kente village, which he says have evolved into targeted attacks against Tiv Christians.

He further alleged that repeated peace initiatives failed due to the “complicity” of local and state authorities and expressed concern that Tiv residents are now being labeled “settlers” despite their historical, social, and political ties to Wukari. Ahur also accused other groups of occupying ancestral lands left behind by displaced families.

“The deployment of security forces has not helped our return but rather blocked access to our homes,” he said, urging the Chief of Army Staff to investigate the conduct of troops in the region.

The group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intervention, requesting safe return, neutral security deployment, and humanitarian support. They also called on the international community to act, citing the 1948 UN Convention on Genocide and highlighting serious violations of their fundamental human rights.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
