Court Summons 16 Stanbic IBTC Execs Over GTBank Clash.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday ordered 16 alleged contemnors, including senior officials of Stanbic IBTC Bank, to appear before the court over alleged disobedience of court orders in a major dispute involving Guaranty Trust Bank.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The directive was issued during proceedings in Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1738/2024, filed by Guaranty Trust Bank against GY Farmers Ltd and other defendants.

At the resumed hearing on April 1, 2026, counsel to the plaintiff, A.B. Ogunba, SAN, informed the court of a pending contempt motion dated March 27, 2026. He urged the court to compel the individuals to appear and explain why they should not be jailed for allegedly defying existing court orders.

Ogunba stated that all parties involved had been properly served with the required contempt notices, including Forms 48 and 49.

The application targets Stanbic IBTC Bank and several of its top executives, among them Yinka Sanni, Wole Adeniyi, Olubunmi Dayo-Olagunju, Olufunke Amobi, Olu Delano, Eric Fajemisin, Kola Lawal, Remy Osuagwu, Abubakar Sadiq Bello, Helmut Engelbrecht, Rabi Isma, Funeka Montjane, Simon Ridley, Remilekun Soyannwo, and Justus Ineanacho.

Court documents reveal that the dispute arose from preservation orders issued on October 25, 2024, which restrained the defendants from withdrawing or moving funds amounting to ₦806,393,894.38. Financial institutions were also directed to disclose any funds linked to the defendants.

However, the plaintiff alleged that despite being aware of the order, Stanbic IBTC filed an affidavit on November 8, 2024, claiming that only the fifth defendant operated an account with the bank and that the account had no funds.

The plaintiff countered this claim, asserting that the bank had earlier confirmed placing a lien on the same account on November 4, 2024, and that it contained R8,736,661.91 at the time—details allegedly omitted in the affidavit submitted to the court.

Following these discrepancies, the court had earlier, on February 24, 2026, ordered the seizure of the funds in question.

During Wednesday’s hearing, counsel to Stanbic IBTC, J.C. Iheanacho, told the court that the bank had filed counter-affidavits in response to the contempt notices, insisting that no such funds existed in the account as claimed by the plaintiff.

He argued that the correspondence cited by the plaintiff was a routine banking communication and did not confirm the presence of funds. He also noted that a bank official present in court could further clarify the matter.

Justice Dipeolu, however, maintained that the contents of the letter were clear and required no alternative interpretation.

Meanwhile, counsel to the second defendant, Adeyinka Olumide Fusika, SAN, raised concerns about fairness, asking the court to ensure all documents filed by the bank are served on other parties. He also criticised what he described as a rising trend of banks submitting inaccurate affidavits under oath.

Fusika informed the court of a pending application for a stay of proceedings but said he would hold off on pursuing it to allow the contempt case to proceed.

In response, Iheanacho requested an adjournment, stating that the bank was preparing additional counter-affidavits to address the issues raised.

After listening to all parties, Justice Dipeolu adjourned the case to April 20, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. and ordered all 16 individuals to appear in court to show cause why they should not be committed to prison.

The plaintiff is also seeking to lift the corporate veil of Stanbic IBTC Bank to hold its top officials personally liable, as well as an order committing them to a correctional facility until they comply with the court’s directives.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said he will not publicly disclose the private steps he has taken to demonstrate support for his detained predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sani made the statement amid growing scrutiny of his relationship with the former governor.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, the Kaduna governor reaffirmed his deep respect for El-Rufai, stressing that he would not publicise every action he had taken to show his regard for him.

According to Sani, respect for someone does not require making private gestures or acts of support public.

“As a matter of respect, many things I’ve done to show my respect for him, my regard for him, I don’t think I should come out and say it. Because when you respect someone, you don’t come out to say certain things,” he said.

Nigeria Would Be So Rich If Everybody Left Money In The Bank – Peter Obi.

Published

on

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Nigeria could have accumulated significant wealth if public funds had been consistently kept in banks to generate interest rather than being mismanaged.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obi made the remark during an interview with a radio station in Nasarawa State on Wednesday.

According to the former Anambra State governor, the country’s financial position would have been considerably stronger if public office holders had protected government funds and allowed them to earn interest in financial institutions.

“I wish everybody in this country left money in the bank; they have interest. Nigeria would have been so rich that we don’t know what to do with money,” he said.

Obi disclosed that his administration kept public funds in three different banks, stressing the importance of safeguarding government resources.

He also criticised what he described as a culture of dishonesty in Nigeria, arguing that individuals who act with integrity are often targeted by those seeking to discredit them.

“Nigeria is a criminalised place. The criminals will always come together to show what the honest person did,” he stated.

The NDC presidential candidate further lamented what he described as a reversal of moral values, where honesty is treated as wrongdoing while criminal conduct appears to be tolerated.

“In Nigeria, to be honest is to be a criminal. To be criminal is to be honest,” Obi said.

He reiterated that Nigeria could have built greater financial reserves if successive leaders had consistently protected public funds and allowed them to generate returns instead of diverting them.

“We would have been worth so much that we don’t know what to do with money,” he added.

Obi also addressed questions about his administration’s approach to publicising government projects, explaining that he believed the results of governance should speak for themselves because the projects were funded with taxpayers’ money.

“We did what we were doing with public money, so the public already see us working, so why are we going to do the ceremony or showing it on TV? Maybe I was wrong, but that was what happened,” he said.

The former governor also defended his record in basic education, maintaining that Anambra State performed exceptionally well in the sector during his tenure.

“I was the best in education, basic education as a governor. You can go and check the records,” Obi said.

Why Is Arokodare Not Playing More At Ajax? Janssen Raises Concerns.

Former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen has questioned whether Tolu Arokodare’s loan arrangement is affecting the Nigerian striker’s playing time at Ajax, despite his impressive performances for the Dutch club.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Janssen raised the issue while appearing on Ziggo Sport’s Rondo programme, suggesting that Ajax’s decision to sign Marcos Leonardo on a permanent deal could be influencing the coach’s team selection.

“It has to do with money that he does not always play,” Janssen said, as quoted by Headtopics.

The former midfielder wondered whether Arokodare’s loan status, compared with Leonardo’s permanent contract, could be a factor in the coach’s decisions.

“Tolu is on loan, and Leonardo was bought. Do you think the trainer decides this?” he asked.

Janssen maintained that Arokodare deserved more opportunities, highlighting the striker’s physical strength, finishing ability and character.

“He is a nice guy when you hear him talk. He is strong and can score a goal. He is just a good player,” he added.

Arokodare has recorded nine goals and three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions since joining Ajax, performances that have strengthened his case for a more regular place in the team.

The 25-year-old recently scored the winning goal in Ajax’s 2-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam on October 25. He also reached the milestone of 100 career goals during the club’s match against Atalanta on October 22.

Ajax signed the Nigerian striker on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers on July 29, after he struggled to establish himself during his first season at Molineux.

Reports indicate that Ajax are covering his full wages and paying a loan fee, with additional payments reportedly tied to qualification for European competitions. The agreement is also said to include an option to sign him permanently for approximately €22 million.

Arokodare is reportedly willing to make his stay at Ajax permanent, provided the club improves its salary offer. Ajax are also said to be interested in retaining the striker beyond the current season.
