El-Rufai was driven to the court around 9:00 a.m. and stepped out of his vehicle at 9:05 a.m., drawing the attention of security personnel and a few onlookers. Security was heightened, with armed officers positioned both inside and outside the court to maintain order.

As the proceedings resumed, journalists were barred from the courtroom as strict entry controls were enforced. The hearing follows Tuesday’s session, which was stalled after the defence introduced new legal motions that added unexpected twists to the case.

Earlier, the defence had filed a motion requesting that Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa recuse himself over alleged bias and a pending petition. The prosecution immediately opposed the motion. In a surprising turn, the defence later filed another motion withdrawing its earlier request for the judge to step aside.

These conflicting filings led to extensive legal arguments and procedural delays, stalling the bail hearing. The situation was further complicated when the prosecution submitted a counter-affidavit opposing the bail request, leaving the defence with limited time to respond.

Given the developments, Justice Aikawa adjourned the matter to Wednesday to continue the hearing.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
