“Tension Rises! FG Warns Nigerians as Protests Rock South Africa Over Igbo King Coronation”

Reports indicate that unrest broke out in the area, with several vehicles set ablaze during protests against the reported installation of Solomon Eziko as the leader of the Igbo community in the city.
According to multiple sources, the demonstration was led by members of ActionSA, a South African political party, who argued that the coronation undermines the province’s sovereignty and constitutional framework.
The situation reportedly escalated in KuGompo City, where protesters burned vehicles and buildings said to belong to foreign nationals.
In response, the Nigerian High Commission in South Africa issued a 10-point advisory to Nigerians living in the country, urging them to prioritise their safety amid what it described as growing tension.
In the notice titled “Advisory to All Nigerians Living in the Republic of South Africa,” citizens were advised to remain vigilant, restrict movement, and avoid unnecessary interactions with unfamiliar individuals.
The Commission also urged Nigerians to keep a low profile, obey local laws, and respect the customs of their host communities.
As a precaution, Nigerians were directed to suspend socio-cultural gatherings and avoid making statements that could inflame the situation, especially on social and mainstream media platforms.
They were further warned to stay away from protests or counter-protests and to avoid displaying wealth or engaging in flamboyant behaviour.
The advisory encouraged Nigerians to promptly report any threats to local security agencies and to seek guidance from the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria or the Consulate General in Johannesburg when necessary.
