NYSC Punishes 24 Corps Members In Sokoto Over Misconduct.

Usman Yakubu Yaro, the Sokoto Coordinator, revealed this during the passing-out ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream I corps members. He explained that eight corps members would repeat their service year, while 16 others had their service extended due to various infractions committed during the exercise.

Yaro stated, “The scheme’s firm stance on discipline means that acts of truancy will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

He also praised the majority of corps members for their contributions, noting that two outstanding individuals received the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Award for exceptional community development efforts—a recognition named after the Sultan of Sokoto.

The coordinator emphasized that securing white-collar jobs is increasingly challenging, urging outgoing corps members to remain exemplary ambassadors of the scheme and to apply the skills they acquired during their service.

Yaro commended Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his consistent support of the scheme, particularly in paying state allowances, and lauded the Sultan of Sokoto for backing youth-focused initiatives.

He highlighted that deployments to rural communities enabled corps members, especially medical personnel, to help bridge gaps in healthcare delivery, while others contributed to teaching in schools.

reports that Showunmi made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) secretariat in Abeokuta on Friday.

He called for a broad political coalition involving opposition parties and grassroots groups to challenge what he described as the failures of dominant political forces in the state.

Showunmi argued that political parties may choose or endorse candidates, but insisted such arrangements must not deny voters a genuine electoral choice.

The PDP chieftain noted that Ogun West’s long-standing exclusion from producing a governor is a legitimate grievance, but stressed that aspirations must still be tested through competition.
