The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has stepped down from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet to pursue his governorship bid in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The resignation was confirmed on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa. Tuggar reportedly submitted his resignation letter to President Tinubu shortly after noon.

Sources told Vanguard that Tuggar intends to contest the Bauchi governorship election on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

His resignation follows a presidential directive issued earlier in March, which requires political appointees seeking elective positions to leave their offices. The directive, communicated via the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, mandates that affected officials resign on or before March 31, 2026.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Atiku insisted that he remains the most popular northern politician, claiming that none of the current or emerging leaders in the region can match his electoral strength.

“Can you tell who is a current leader in the North who has more votes than I have? Talking of leaders like Tambuwal, Kwankwaso, El-Rufai and also the emerging political leaders, none of them have got that northern vote as much as I’ve got,” he said.
