Palm Sunday: CAN President Calls For Peace, Unity Among Christians.
Amid rising economic challenges and global uncertainties, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has called for calm, unity, and responsible leadership as Christians across the nation observe Palm Sunday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Sunday, Okoh highlighted the spiritual significance of Palm Sunday, describing it as a time that embodies peace, humility, and hope, even in difficult and uncertain times. He emphasized that Jesus entered Jerusalem with purpose and calm resolve, conveying a message of peace rather than force.
“The message of Palm Sunday is especially relevant as Nigerians face economic hardships, including rising living costs, fuel price hikes, and increasing food expenses,” he said.
Okoh noted that part of these economic pressures stems from global developments, including geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which are affecting energy markets and daily life in Nigeria. Families across the country are feeling the impact, with higher transport costs and food prices making daily survival more challenging.
He urged leaders at all levels to consider the impact of their words and actions, stressing that in uncertain times, people need reassurance and stability. “True leadership is measured not by force or rhetoric, but by empathy, restraint, and dedication to the common good,” Okoh said.
Highlighting the lessons of Palm Sunday, he called for decisions that alleviate burdens, ease anxieties, and unite people. He encouraged the Church and Nigerians of all faiths to promote peace and solidarity, recalling how diverse groups once came together in shared hope and purpose—a spirit that is needed today.
Okoh also addressed young Nigerians and those most affected by the current economic realities, urging them not to lose hope. “While the challenges we face are real, they are not insurmountable,” he affirmed.
