BREAKING: Nasir El-Rufai Presses National Judicial Council Over Inaction On Petition Against Judge.

Published

on

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has stepped up pressure on the National Judicial Council (NJC), demanding urgent action on his petition against Federal High Court Judge, Justice R.M. Aikawa, over allegations of bias and judicial misconduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a second reminder letter dated March 9, 2026, addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, El-Rufai expressed concern over the council’s prolonged inaction on his complaint.

Justice Aikawa is currently overseeing a criminal case filed against El-Rufai by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The former governor faces a 10-count charge including corruption, money laundering, abuse of office, and unlawful possession of public funds.

El-Rufai’s legal team had previously raised concerns over Justice Aikawa’s assignment to the case, noting the pending NJC petition against him. In his letter, El-Rufai highlighted that more than a year has passed since he filed the petition in February 2025, yet no feedback has been received.

The petition, filed under the NJC Judicial Discipline Regulations 2017, accuses Justice Aikawa of “profound bias, denial of fair hearing, and conduct wholly unbecoming of a judicial officer,” describing him as “unfit to administer justice in a civilized society.”

El-Rufai warned that delays in addressing the matter risk undermining public confidence in the judiciary. He also alleged that Justice Aikawa continued to preside over cases involving some of his former associates in the Kaduna State Government and admitted evidence he deemed inadmissible.

“His rulings continue to inflict unwarranted harm on innocent individuals solely due to their prior association with me,” El-Rufai stated, adding that unchecked judicial conduct could weaken the rule of law.

He requested that all pending cases overseen by Justice Aikawa, particularly those involving the Kaduna State Government, be reassigned to a judge “of unimpeachable standing.”

In response, the NJC, in a letter dated March 24, 2026, confirmed that the petition is under review. The council’s Secretary, Ahmed Saleh, stated the matter has been referred to the Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee for evaluation.

The NJC noted that the petition had been sent to Justice Aikawa on March 21, 2025, with a 14-day deadline for response, which the judge only met after a follow-up reminder in November 2025. The council emphasized that its process allows the judge to present a defense before any decision is made.

El-Rufai’s complaint is connected to Suit No. FHC/KD/CS/55/2024 against the Kaduna State House of Assembly, in which he alleges judicial impropriety.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.

Published

on

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.
