SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA TINUBU, GCFR, AT THE 4TH ELECTIVE NATIONAL CONVENTION OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 2026, EAGLE SQUARE, ABUJA

Protocol:

President Tinubu opened his remarks by expressing deep gratitude to God, pride in the APC’s journey since its formation, and optimism about Nigeria’s future despite existing challenges.

He described the convention as more than a routine gathering, calling it a pivotal moment for strengthening unity, renewing commitment, and reinforcing the party’s founding ideals.

Highlighting the theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Tinubu stressed that national development cannot be achieved without unity, noting that the APC was formed 13 years ago through bold collaboration aimed at rescuing Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the party’s shared belief in building a stronger nation where democracy works for all, leadership is driven by vision and justice, and citizens can live with dignity.

The President paid tribute to the party’s founding members and called for a moment of silence in honour of former leader Muhammadu Buhari and other deceased members.

Tinubu warned against internal divisions, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in its unity rather than numbers. He urged members to prioritize collective interest over personal ambition and to remain disciplined and focused.

He clarified that the APC does not seek to establish a one-party state, noting that a strong democracy requires a credible opposition to ensure accountability and improved governance.

Defending the Electoral Act 2026, Tinubu stated that it followed due legislative processes and reflects Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its electoral system and democratic institutions.

On governance, the President reiterated that the Renewed Hope Agenda is a guiding philosophy, not just a campaign slogan. He acknowledged the challenges of reforms but insisted they are necessary for long-term prosperity.

He highlighted achievements under his administration, including infrastructure development, modernization of ports and airports, tax reforms, social investment programmes, and improved national security efforts.

Tinubu noted improvements in economic indicators such as declining inflation, increased investor confidence, trade surpluses, and growth in GDP. He also cited Nigeria’s exit from the FATF Grey List and a surge in foreign investment in the oil and gas sector.

Addressing ongoing challenges, he mentioned efforts to improve electricity supply through the planned Grid Asset Management Company, aimed at boosting power generation capacity.

The President also spoke directly to youths and women, urging greater participation in leadership and decision-making while promising expanded opportunities within the party and government.

He called on delegates and stakeholders to conduct themselves with integrity throughout the convention, stressing that unity must prevail regardless of contest outcomes.

Tinubu commended key figures involved in organizing the convention, including Aminu Bello Masari, Anyim Pius Anyim, and several governors such as AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Mai Mala Buni, Hope Uzodimma, and Dapo Abiodun for their roles in ensuring a successful event.

In closing, he urged newly elected leaders to serve with integrity and vision, encouraging continued growth of the party while maintaining transparency and strong internal structures.

Tinubu ended his speech with prayers for the party and the nation, expressing confidence in a united and prosperous Nigeria.
