According to a statement from the JTF’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists had attacked FOB Mandaragirau in Sector 2 on Saturday morning but were met with a well-coordinated ambush and a combined offensive-defensive response from the troops.

The operation also received close air support from OPHK’s air component, enabling precise strikes against the assailants.

“Follow-up operations along the terrorists’ retreat routes inflicted additional heavy losses. About 38 terrorists were neutralized, with 8 bodies recovered on-site and intelligence confirming over 30 more bodies and weapons scattered along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis into the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement said.

Troops recovered 7 AK-47 rifles, 8 magazines, 4 RPG bombs, and assorted ammunition. There were no troop fatalities, though one MRAP was hit by RPG fire; the injured personnel were stabilized.

The statement noted that the operation’s success has boosted morale among local communities and reinforced OPHK’s dominance in denying terrorists freedom of action.
