Saraki Exposes The Forces Splitting PDP Ahead Of National Convention.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritize the party’s welfare over individual ambitions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview with Leadership, Saraki identified clashing egos, competing interests, and external interference as key threats to the party’s unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
He highlighted that leading an opposition party presents unique challenges compared to a ruling party. “In a ruling party, decisions often follow a command-and-control structure. But in an opposition party, there is no clear hierarchy. It requires negotiation and patience,” he said.
Saraki noted that the PDP’s leadership comprises former governors, lawmakers, and other influential figures, each bringing distinct perspectives and ambitions. “This diversity is a strength, but it can also create friction. Differences are natural, but personal egos must sometimes be set aside. The party, the country, and democracy must come first,” he added.
He also pointed to external forces that exploit divisions within the opposition. “There is always an attempt to portray our challenges as self-inflicted, but outside influences often deepen internal conflicts,” Saraki observed.
Reflecting on past party crises, he stressed that political dialogue, not litigation, is the ultimate solution. “Court processes may address certain issues, but they cannot replace negotiation. Leaders must return to the table to resolve their differences,” he said.
