Saraki Denies Backing Tinubu’s Second Term, Calls Claim Mischievous.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has dismissed claims that he endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The clarification comes after an aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olanrewaju, suggested that Saraki’s recent remarks on power rotation implied indirect support for Tinubu.
In a statement issued in Abuja by Yusuph Olaniyonu on behalf of Saraki’s media office, the former Senate President described such interpretations as “mischievous” and misleading.
The statement emphasized that Saraki’s comment—that the South should complete eight years in office—should not be seen as endorsing any individual. Olaniyonu said, “He is not someone who will say A in the afternoon and do B in the night. Nor does he speak in coded terms,” adding that Saraki has consistently stood by his convictions, regardless of political consequences.
The media office highlighted that Saraki’s stance on zoning is longstanding. He was among the key PDP stakeholders who supported allocating the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the South. The office stressed that this position should not be interpreted as backing any specific aspirant, noting that multiple contenders from the southern region are expected.
Saraki has also stated that he would wait for the PDP to complete its internal processes and produce a candidate before declaring his position. He reiterated his belief that by 2031, the presidency should rotate back to the North, leaving no doubt about the region’s turn in the next election.
The statement accused some political actors of deliberately twisting Saraki’s remarks to suit personal ambitions, warning against attempts to create confusion within the opposition. It described such misrepresentations as a “desperate and calculated effort” to manipulate public perception for political gain.
