The increase will impact Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to visit, study, work, or settle in the UK, raising the overall cost of migration amid strong demand.

According to the updated fee schedule released by the UK Home Office, nearly all visa categories—both for applications made within the UK and abroad—will be affected. This includes visit visas, student visas, work permits, settlement applications, and naturalisation processes.

The changes, coming into effect in less than two weeks, are expected to particularly affect Nigerians, who are among the largest groups applying for UK visas each year. Thousands of Nigerians seek study, work, and visitor visas annually, making the UK a top migration destination.

Highlights of the New UK Visa Fees

  • Short-term visit visa: £127 → £135
  • Student visa (main applicant & dependants): £524 → £558
  • Permanent residency: £3,029 → £3,226
  • British citizenship (naturalisation): £1,605 → £1,709

Notably, the fee for registering a child as a British citizen has decreased from £1,214 to £1,000, marking the only major reduction.

Some visa categories remain unchanged, including the Tier 1 (Investor) visa (£2,000) and the High Potential Individual visa (£880).

The fee increases are likely to raise the financial barrier for Nigerians planning to relocate, study, or do business in the UK. Prospective migrants may need to adjust plans or prepare additional funds ahead of the new fee regime.
