The demonstrators included members of the League of Women Voters, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), National Association of Muslim Women, and People with Disabilities, among others.
They first visited the Umuahia office of Obi Aguocha, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, before proceeding to Aba to deliver their message to Mascot Ikwechegh of Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.
Addressing the protest, FIDA Abia State Chairperson, Njideka Aniawonwa, criticized the National Assembly for delaying the passage of the Special Seats Bill for Women.
Holding green leaves, the women urged the lawmakers to support the bill, emphasizing that its approval would increase inclusivity across all levels of government and address the persistent underrepresentation of women despite their large population.
In Aba, Mr. Sunny Amabo received their petition and assured the demonstrators that their message would be forwarded to Mascot Ikwechegh.
