Taiwo Awoniyi Risks FA Action After Religious Celebration In Forest Win Over Spurs.
Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi may face disciplinary action following his goal celebration during Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Awoniyi capped off an assured away performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a late finish, converting a close-range delivery from Neco Williams. The strike marked his second league goal this season, following an earlier goal against Brentford in January.
While the win strengthened Forest’s position in the league and increased pressure on Spurs, the focus has shifted to Awoniyi’s celebration. After scoring, he lifted his shirt to reveal a religious message reading: “God is the greatest.”
Having already received a yellow card during the match, Awoniyi now faces potential further sanctions under rules regulating player conduct.
IFAB Law 4 prohibits players from displaying political, religious, or personal messages during matches:
“Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images. Players must not reveal undergarments that show political, religious, personal slogans, statements or images, or advertising other than the manufacturer’s logo. For any offence, the player and/or the team will be sanctioned by the competition organiser, national football association, or by FIFA.”
The incident has drawn comparisons with a previous case involving Marc Guehi, who was cautioned by the Football Association for displaying religious messages on a rainbow armband linked to LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall last season.
At the time, UK politician Neil O’Brien criticized the FA’s handling of such cases, questioning its consistency:
“People criticised Sam Morsy for not wearing a rainbow armband on the weekend. The club said he was a Muslim, that was the end of it. FA ‘declined to comment’. What a total two-tier mess.”
Guehi, however, defended his actions:
“The message was just one of truth, love, and inclusivity. I don’t think it was harmful in any way. My faith is my faith, and I’ll stand by it for the rest of my life.”

According to Gyimah, the discussion began at approximately 8:45 a.m. before the actor suddenly took ill, forcing the production team to suspend the broadcast.
The radio station later confirmed his death in a statement, revealing that he was rushed to a hospital for emergency medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The station’s management and staff expressed shock over the sudden loss, describing the incident as a tragic event that occurred during their regular programming.

2027 Election: Sowore Sends Strong Warning, Says Rainbow Coalition In Rivers, Lagos, Osun ‘Will D!e’.
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has rejected any association with the Rainbow Coalition, a political alliance led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, which is mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Reports that Sowore made his position known while speaking at an event organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Thursday.
The activist and politician expressed no interest in joining the alliance, predicting that the coalition would collapse after the 2027 general election.
“We are not part of any coalition with the man in Aso Rock.
“I don’t want to be part of any Rainbow Coalition because it’s going to die after 2027. Whether it’s made in Port Harcourt, Lagos, or Osun State,” Sowore said.
He also addressed his party’s request to use the Presidential Villa in Abuja for the inauguration of its presidential campaign council, clarifying that the move should not be interpreted as an attempt to align with Tinubu or politicians supporting his re-election.
According to Sowore, the application was based on the principle that public facilities should be accessible to all political parties, rather than being reserved for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He maintained that the request had nothing to do with joining the Rainbow Coalition or cooperating politically with the President’s supporters.
“My application to use Aso Rock to launch my presidential campaign council is not intended to join the Rainbow Coalition,” he stated.
Sowore added that his party sought permission to use the venue because the APC had held political events there, arguing that other parties should enjoy similar access to public facilities.
“We asked to use it because the APC uses it to do political events. So, since Aso Rock is our own, other political parties must be allowed to use it the way APC uses it,” he said.

Ebola Row: APC Challenges Atiku Over Tinubu Remarks, Calls For Focus On Public Health.
The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments on the Federal Government’s handling of the reported Ebola case in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The council maintained that the ₦10 billion approved for Ebola emergency preparedness had not been spent, insisting that relevant government agencies had relied on other available resources to carry out surveillance and preparedness activities.
Atiku had, in a statement issued on Wednesday, accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to account for the ₦10 billion earmarked for Ebola preparedness.
The former vice president called on the government to publish details of the fund’s disbursement, including payment dates, contracts, beneficiaries and items delivered. He also demanded an explanation if the money had not been released.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the APC-PCC spokesperson, Dele Alake, accused Atiku of politicising a public health emergency and making unsubstantiated allegations against the Tinubu administration.
Alake also faulted Atiku’s reported criticism of the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats, arguing that the opposition figure had raised questions about the utilisation of the emergency allocation without establishing that the money had been spent.
According to Alake, the ₦10 billion approved by the President in June for the Ebola emergency response remained untouched, while the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other surveillance agencies used existing resources to carry out their duties.
In the statement, Alake accused Atiku of repeatedly making statements that disrespected the office of the President.
He said: “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar continues to foul up the political arena, with statement after statement dripping with insult and disrespect to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“A statement credited to the former vice president on the latest public health issue opened with a title linking the President’s first name to Ebola and questioning how the Presidential Task Force spent the N10 billion approved for the emergency.”
Alake argued that linking Tinubu’s name to Ebola risked turning a serious public health concern into an opportunity to ridicule the President.
He also accused Atiku of demonstrating a lack of understanding of the virus, particularly regarding why the reported case involving a Nigerian traveller from Uganda was not detected upon arrival at the Abuja airport.
Explaining the disease’s incubation period, Alake said Ebola symptoms typically develop between two and 21 days after exposure, with symptoms commonly appearing within eight to 10 days.
He added that an infected person cannot transmit the virus to others before developing symptoms, arguing that this explained why the patient sought medical attention days after the initial exposure.
Alake further defended the work of the NCDC, FAAN and other agencies, saying their surveillance efforts at entry points helped alert authorities to the reported case and facilitated contact tracing involving 44 contacts of the patient.
He maintained that the agencies deserved commendation for their efforts to prevent the virus from spreading.
The APC-PCC spokesperson also dismissed suggestions attributed to Atiku’s camp that a ministerial briefing on the Ebola situation was intended to discourage Nigerians from attending campaign rallies or voting.
He described the allegation as speculative, insisting that serious claims of that nature required verifiable evidence.
Alake said the briefing focused on urging Nigerians to comply with the protocols announced by the Presidential Task Force rather than restricting political participation.
He urged Atiku and members of the opposition to refrain from politicising public health matters, stressing the need for cooperation with health authorities and professionals.
“We advise Atiku Abubakar and his hirelings to avoid politicising public health issues. A time like this demands that all Nigerians, including the opposition, rally around the health authorities and professionals, communicate responsibly, avoid rumour-mongering, and follow the protocols advised by the Task Force to ensure Ebola does not become a national epidemic,” he said.
Alake concluded that protecting Nigerians from the potentially deadly disease should remain the government’s foremost priority.
