“More Hardship Ahead? Dangote Raises Alarm After Meeting Tinubu”.

Published

President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has raised concerns over the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, warning that it could worsen economic hardship in Nigeria if not urgently resolved.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The billionaire businessman made this known on Monday after a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos.

Speaking on the potential impact of the crisis, Dangote noted that although Nigeria is not directly involved, the effects of global oil price fluctuations would inevitably be felt.

“It means quite a lot. We may not be directly involved, but the world is a global village. It will definitely affect us, and we can only hope the situation is resolved soon,” he said.

Dangote cautioned that a prolonged conflict could further strain economies, particularly in Africa, where fiscal buffers are limited and debt burdens remain high.

“If the crisis does not de-escalate, the consequences will be severe. Africa is already grappling with debt, and adding this pressure will increase hardship for governments and citizens alike, despite having no direct involvement,” he stated.

He emphasized that energy costs play a critical role across all sectors, warning that sustained increases would have widespread and cascading effects on businesses and livelihoods.

“If the situation persists, prices will continue to rise. Governments may not be able to adjust salaries accordingly, meaning the burden will fall heavily on individuals and businesses—from small-scale operators like barbers and bakers to large industries reliant on generators,” he explained.

Dangote also highlighted possible global responses to the crisis, including reduced work schedules and increased remote working to manage energy consumption.

“In some countries, people are already being asked to work from home or reduce working days. If the situation worsens, we could see a return to arrangements similar to the COVID-19 period, where many worked remotely,” he said.

He concluded by stressing the need for collective efforts toward a peaceful resolution, warning that failure to de-escalate the crisis would deepen economic challenges worldwide.

Emefiele Trial: Court Sets Date For Ruling On Omoile’s Statement.

Published

on

An Ikeja Special Offences Court has fixed May 4, 2026, to rule on the admissibility of an extra-judicial statement made by a co-defendant in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the statement was made by Henry Omoile, who is standing trial alongside Emefiele, and the court will determine whether it was made voluntarily and is admissible as evidence.

Justice Rahman Oshodi fixed the date after both prosecution and defence counsel adopted their final written addresses during a trial-within-trial proceeding.

The hearing is focused on whether Omoile’s statement was obtained under lawful conditions or through coercion, as alleged by the defence.

Emefiele is facing a 19-count charge bordering on alleged gratification, corrupt demands, and abuse of office, linked to transactions worth about $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion.

Omoile is also facing a three-count charge over alleged unlawful acceptance of gifts relating to dealings with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Omoile’s counsel, Adeyinka Kotoye (SAN), argued that the statement should be rejected, claiming it was not made voluntarily and violated provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, including lack of video recording and concerns over coercion.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), also urged the court to discount the statement, arguing that involuntary statements are inadmissible under the Evidence Act.

However, the prosecution, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), insisted the statement was properly obtained and made in the presence of Omoile’s lawyer.

He added that the content of the statement did not support claims of coercion and did not implicate Emefiele.

The court adjourned ruling to May 4, 2026, while also fixing June 26 and June 30, 2026, for continuation of the main trial.
