Lagos CP Threatens to Disband Task Force: ‘No More Shielding Any Police Officer’.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has warned that no officer will be protected if found guilty of misconduct.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Naija News reports that Jimoh made the statement during a press briefing in Ikeja on Saturday, adding that the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Task Force) could be disbanded if abuses continue.
He stressed that unprofessional behavior, especially amid growing reports of extortion and rights violations, will no longer be tolerated.
Jimoh said, “We are not going to defend any police officers who embark on any wrongdoing. We won’t.”
The warning follows public outcry over a viral video showing task force operatives allegedly arresting lawyers in a land dispute. The commissioner noted that disciplinary measures had already been taken in previous incidents and reiterated that further verified violations would prompt decisive action.
He revealed that reforms are underway, including the deployment of newly screened and trained officers to the unit, and collaboration with civil society and human rights groups to improve professionalism and accountability.
Jimoh added, “We have read the riot act to them. If there is another verified complaint of wrongdoing, I will not hesitate to dissolve the task force and bring in a new set of officers.
“New officers are being posted after thorough background checks, training, and reorientation. We are also engaging human rights organisations and CSOs to ensure all officers understand their responsibilities and uphold human rights.”

End Of The Road: Ex-NSPM Boss Faces Bribery Charges ln UK After Supreme Court Ruling.
The Supreme Court has greenlit the extradition of Emmanuel Okoyomon, the former Managing Director and CEO of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPM), to the United Kingdom to answer to bribery allegations. In a unanimous ruling, a five-judge panel presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba dismissed Okoyomon’s appeal, declaring it meritless. The court upheld the previous 2016 Court of Appeal ruling, with Justice Mohammed Idris reading the lead judgment authored by Justice Emmanuel Agim, which affirmed that there were no grounds to overturn the lower court’s decisions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The legal battle stems from a request by the Attorney General of the Federation for Okoyomon’s surrender to the UK regarding his alleged involvement in a bribery scandal linked to Securency International Pty of Australia, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the NSPM. Although the Federal High Court initially approved the extradition in May 2015, Okoyomon sought to block the move, citing a denial of his right to a fair hearing.
The Court of Appeal previously rejected his challenge, emphasizing that under the London Scheme for Extradition within the Commonwealth—which is reflected in Nigeria’s Extradition Act—the country is obligated to surrender individuals wanted for such offenses. The appellate court further dismissed his claims regarding his citizenship status, ruling it irrelevant to the core merits of the extradition application. With this final Supreme Court decision, the long-standing legal challenge has been brought to a close.

$42.5 Million Rice Fraud Trial Implodes: Judge Recuses Himself Amidst Stinging Bias Allegations!.
The trial of two Indian nationals, one British citizen, and two companies—Agrico Agbe Limited and Wilben Trade Limited—concerning an alleged $42.5 million rice import fraud involving Ecobank Plc has been delayed following Justice Akintayo Aluko’s decision to recuse himself from the case. The defendants, identified as Prem Garg, Devashish Garg, and Marcus Wade, face five charges including conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretenses, cheating, and conversion.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The prosecution alleges that between May and September 2015, the defendants fraudulently obtained $42,485,900 from Ecobank Plc by misrepresenting the funds as being for the importation of Indian parboiled rice. The government claims the defendants secured $22,485,900 in May 2015 and an additional $20 million in September 2015, only to divert and convert the money for unauthorized purposes.
During recent proceedings, Justice Aluko addressed a petition that accused him of bias and misconduct. While the judge defended his conduct—noting that his previous actions, such as ordering hearing notices, were intended to keep the case moving—he expressed concern that the petition was a tactic to delay the trial. Citing professional conduct rules that prohibit lawyers from obstructing the administration of justice, he criticized the frequent absences of the defense counsel.
Despite dismissing the allegations as unsubstantiated and asserting he had no personal interest in the matter, Justice Aluko chose to withdraw from the case to remove any perception of bias. The case file has been sent to the Administrative Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment, effectively stalling the trial until a new judge is appointed.
