Anioma State Demand Non-Negotiable, Omenazu Jackson Criticises Uzodinma.

Chief Omenazu Jackson, Chancellor of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights (ISSJHR) and a prominent figure in Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has faulted Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, over alleged moves to weaken the push for the creation of Anioma State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement, Jackson insisted that the demand for Anioma State is non-negotiable, stressing that it is rooted in justice, identity, equity, and the need to correct what he described as a long-standing structural imbalance affecting the Igbo people.

“The Anioma question is not negotiable; it is anchored on justice, identity, and fairness, as well as the urgent need to address an imposed structural imbalance on the Igbo nation,” he said.

Jackson maintained that the Anioma people of Delta North are Igbo by origin, culture, and tradition, arguing that political and colonial boundaries cannot erase their identity. He added that years of geopolitical restructuring, especially after the civil war, have deepened their marginalisation.

He also raised concerns over what he described as efforts to promote an alternative “Anim State,” warning that such a proposal lacks historical and cultural legitimacy and is driven by narrow political interests rather than the collective will of the Igbo people.

“Any agenda that places personal ambition above collective identity is not progress but a dangerous distraction,” he said, cautioning against attempts to divert attention from the Anioma State movement.

Making a case for the proposed state, Jackson noted that its creation would reunite a people divided by administrative boundaries, strengthen the political standing of the Igbo nation, and expand its economic and geographical influence.

He added that Anioma State would boost access to economic opportunities, particularly through the River Niger, and improve the region’s bargaining power within Nigeria’s federal system.

Jackson described the agitation as part of a broader historical struggle for recognition and inclusion, saying it continues the efforts of previous generations.

“Anioma State is not just a political goal; it is a pursuit of justice, a reaffirmation of identity, and a crucial step toward securing the future of Ndigbo,” he said.

He urged Igbo leaders, socio-cultural groups, and stakeholders to remain united and resist any attempts to derail the Anioma State campaign.

In a four-minute, two-second video recently circulated online, the couple appeared in captivity to relay the specific demands of their captors. Notably, the abductors did not request a monetary ransom. Instead, they are demanding the following:

  • The release of three of their associates identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru, who were reportedly arrested in Jikamshi and Kano.

  • The return of livestock that was allegedly confiscated from the group.

In the video, the retired general’s wife urged the Katsina State Government and local leaders from five areas to fulfill these conditions to ensure their freedom. Common Entrance Alarm: 2026 Exam Numbers Plummet, Sparking Concern Over Declining Participation!.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) oversaw the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination this Saturday, with 58,187 candidates sitting for the test required for admission into Nigeria’s Federal Government Colleges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, announced these figures in Abuja, noting a decline from the 64,578 candidates who participated in 2025. Despite the overall drop in numbers, the registrar highlighted a positive trend: female enrollment surpassed male participation, with over 31,000 girls registered compared to approximately 26,000 boys. Prof. Wushishi attributed this to ongoing government efforts to advance girl-child education.

Overall, the examination proceeded smoothly across the country without reports of major disruptions. The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, who monitored the process alongside NECO leadership, commended the orderly conduct of the students and the punctuality of the exam start times. The minister also confirmed that schools were adhering to established age guidelines for applicants.

However, the minister expressed concern regarding student absenteeism, noting that some centers saw several candidates fail to appear. Authorities intend to investigate the reasons behind these absences to address potential barriers to participation.

Regional data showed a significant disparity in turnout:

  • Highest turnout: Lagos State led with 13,228 registered candidates.

  • Lowest turnout: Taraba State recorded the fewest, with only 15 registrations.

The monitoring tour included visits to the Model Secondary School in Maitama, as well as the Government Science Technical College and Federal Government Boys’ College in Garki. The minister reaffirmed that the federal government remains dedicated to upgrading school infrastructure to bolster the national education system.
